The show is now correcting a scheduling mistake CBS quickly tried to resolve in December – a first for this series. Episode 9 of NCIS: Sydney Season 3, titled “South of Nowhere,” will begin the second half of the season, but it was originally intended to be the midseason finale until just before it aired.
The Australian version of NCIS is just one of several series that have come from the original show. NCIS itself began as a spin-off of the legal drama JAG, and has since launched other shows like NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i, and the short-lived NCIS: Tony & Ziva. NCIS: Sydney builds on this success, taking the franchise in a new direction as originally planned, despite its cancellation.
NCIS: Sydney Season 3’s Shocking Secretive Episode Explained
The midseason finale of NCIS was originally planned for December 16, 2025. However, CBS unexpectedly aired a repeat episode – Season 22, Episode 10, featuring Alden Parker (Gary Cole) – just hours before the new midseason finale of Season 23 was supposed to air.
Although the network didn’t publicly state why, the schedule change happened shortly after a tragic shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where fifteen people were killed and many more injured. It’s likely the network decided to postpone the program out of sensitivity and respect.
Fans can look forward to new episodes of NCIS: Sydney when it returns in March to finish out Season 3. The season will begin with an episode called “South of Nowhere,” and this installment will continue the show’s tradition of taking the team to exciting new locations – this time, Antarctica.
As a big fan of NCIS, I was really intrigued by the description of their midseason premiere! Apparently, the team heads to Antarctica to figure out why a scientist killed a coworker right before the long polar night sets in. The stakes are incredibly high – they need to solve the case and get out before their plane’s engine fails, leaving them stranded in the dark for half a year! Honestly, just the unique setting alone makes me think this episode will be worth the wait.
What Else to Expect From NCIS: Sydney Season 3
Viewers will not only get to see an episode of NCIS: Sydney that was originally planned for mid-season, but the second half of Season 3 promises some thrilling new storylines. Team leader Michelle Mackey is now a target – she’s on a kill list created by an American operative called the Ghost – and she’s turned to Richard Rankin, playing Lewis Fitz-Gerald, for help understanding the situation.
Season 3 of NCIS: Sydney will probably reveal who is threatening Mackey and the reason behind it. The show will also explore the ongoing mysteries surrounding Bluebird “Blue” Gleason, and how James “JD” Dempsey is secretly working with a colleague to keep their team employed.
The next episode of NCIS: Sydney will probably feature a gripping standalone case, as it’s meant to wrap up the first half of the season. When the show returns, the entire team – including Tuuli Narkle as Constable Evie Cooper, Sean Sagar as NCIS Agent DeShawn Jackson, and William McInnes as Doctor Roy “Rosie” Penrose – will be working on it.
With the return of the popular Australian and American casts, NCIS: Sydney will reveal the backstory fans have been waiting for, known as “South of Nowhere.” Looking ahead, NCIS viewers can also anticipate Season 4 of NCIS: Sydney as Season 3 sets the stage, alongside other series like NCIS and NCIS: Origins.
