Spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps lie ahead.
The upcoming movie, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” is generating significant anticipation in the 2025 film lineup. With its stylish, futuristic 1960s backdrop, fresh perspective, and a stellar cast, it’s definitely one to watch out for. Among the talented actors gracing the screen is Natasha Lyonne. Fan speculation about her character has been rampant, but now she’s revealing more than just her character details – Lyonne is also sharing insights into her interactions with The Thing. Her unique take on these encounters resonates strongly with me.
In a chat with Entertainment Weekly during promotions for her upcoming animated movie “The Bad Guys 2“, Natasha Lyonne reminisced about her time on the set of “Fantastic Four” and the experience of playing a potential love interest for one of the main characters. Just like any other Natasha Lyonne conversation, she openly shared that flirting was an enjoyable part of filming, particularly with Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who portrayed The Thing, or Ben Grimm. With a laugh, Lyonne confessed that this playful banter was something she especially enjoyed during the production.
Goodness me! It’s quite unexpected. Ebon and I have a lengthy history together, but let me tell you, our relationship is unconventional to say the least. I must confess.
In the story, Lyonne’s character, Rachel Rozman, encounters The Thing (digitally created by Moss-Bacharach) while he interacts with one of her students. Timid and fearful of rejection due to his unusual looks, The Thing keeps his distance until he eventually chooses to approach Rachel at the film’s end. Despite being entirely computer-generated, there is an undeniable chemistry between these two characters. It’s plausible that their past friendship contributed to their convincing on-screen dynamic.
The actress famed for “Poker Face” isn’t shy about speaking her mind, and I appreciate her straightforward use of the term “unusual” when discussing the scenario. Yet, she didn’t forget to offer sincere praise for her co-star in their shared scene.
Absolutely! He’s incredibly talented as an actor, and our long-standing friendship made being a part of that even more meaningful and special.
It’s intriguing to delve deeper into the history shared by these two actors. According to Lyonne, they’ve been acquainted for quite some time, but their careers never intersected professionally until “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Interestingly enough, they both graced our screens on HBO’s series, “Girls,” with Lyonne making a guest appearance in an episode and Moss-Bachrach portraying one of the main romantic interests throughout the show. I find it quite fascinating that their paths eventually converged through the Fantastic Four project.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I couldn’t help but chuckle at Lyonne’s witty remark. Despite the strong romantic undertones between her character and The Thing in the recent installment of Fantastic Four, it seems Rachel Rozman remains a single woman, navigating complex relationships with a variety of challenging partners.
By the way, I’m also seeing four other rocks, you should know, at this time. I won’t name names.
Natasha Lyonne seems genuinely passionate about this project and enjoyed collaborating with Moss-Bachrach. Although her role in the movie might be limited, Lyonne manages to make Rachel a significant character who provides stability within the film. I’m eagerly anticipating these characters’ relationship and hope it continues to grow in future Marvel Cinematic Universe productions. As of now, there’s no news about a First Steps sequel.

Fervently hoping that Sasha Lyonne and their romantic storyline continue in “Avengers: Doomsday,” as I can’t seem to tire of witnessing her on the screen, and long for more of her dynamic collaboration with Moss-Bachrach.
