Ms. Marvel’s Absence In Avengers: Doomsday Disappoints After X-Men Teaser

The trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ shows the welcome return of several mutants originally from Fox’s X-Men movies, but it also highlights the absence of one Marvel character in a more noticeable way. The new Avengers movie will feature a huge number of heroes, uniting characters from the Avengers, X-Men, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and Wakanda.

Marvel dropped four short previews of its upcoming film, set to release in December 2026, giving fans a glimpse of familiar faces – including several mutants! The preview for the X-Men showed a long-awaited reunion between Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto, and featured James Marsden’s Cyclops using his powerful optic blast.

Despite the growing cast of the film, several MCU characters haven’t appeared yet, including Ms. Marvel, who was last seen in 2023’s The Marvels. Now that the X-Men are back in Doomsday, Marvel is letting a potentially exciting story opportunity involving Kamala Khan pass them by.

Ms. Marvel Not Meeting The X-Men Would Be A Missed Opportunity After Her Mutant Tease

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) significantly altered the backstory of Kamala Khan, the character Ms. Marvel, when introducing her in 2022. While in the original comic books, Kamala gained her powers as an Inhuman exposed to the Terrigen Mist, the MCU reimagined her as a mutant whose abilities were unlocked by a mysterious, ancestral bangle.

Ms. Marvel’s origins are unexpectedly revealed when Bruno discovers a genetic mutation within her DNA. This discovery, highlighted by a musical cue from X-Men: The Animated Series, officially introduces the first mutant character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hinting at the future arrival of the X-Men.

It’s disappointing that Iman Vellani wasn’t included in the cast of Doomsday. This means she might not get to meet the original X-Men actors from Fox. Given that Marvel hinted at the X-Men’s arrival, it would have been a great chance for her character to interact with them, even if just for a single movie.

Not only would it be a treat for fans, but introducing other characters with similar abilities to Kamala would also let her learn more about her own powers. These characters could mentor her, helping her become a more effective hero, and even potentially guide her in training future mutants as the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands.

Iman Vellani Isn’t Part Of Doomsday’s Cast, But She Could Still Be In It

The cast announcement for Doomsday featured many familiar faces from previous films, but it wasn’t a complete list. While Chris Evans wasn’t initially included in the reveal, a new trailer has confirmed he’ll be reprising his role as Steve Rogers. There’s still a good chance Iman Vellani will appear in the movie, particularly after director Nia DaCosta hinted at it recently.

Nia DaCosta, who directed Iman Vellani in The Marvels, recently discussed her experiences working with Marvel during an interview about 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. In a conversation with Deadline, DaCosta mentioned visiting the set of Doomsday, explaining that she had “some friends in the movie.”

It’s unclear who she’s talking about, but because she directed The Marvels, she likely means Iman Vellani, Brie Larson, or Teyonah Parris. While these three actresses weren’t included in the initial Doomsday announcement, they could still be in the movie. Many fans hope Marvel will eventually bring Ms. Marvel and the X-Men together, possibly in either Doomsday or Secret Wars.
