Mortal Kombat 3 Gets Exciting Update Ahead of Sequel Release

The producer of “Mortal Kombat II” is discussing a potential third film even before its theater release, which is scheduled for a few months from now. The initial movie in this new cinematic series was released in US theaters in 2021 and had a decent run. Warner Bros. Pictures, responsible for the first film, has given the go-ahead for a sequel. These films are inspired by the video game series “Mortal Kombat,” created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

Todd Garner says he has plans for a potential Mortal Kombat 3 already

Todd Garner, who is associated with the Mortal Kombat movie franchise, shared that comments on the initial film influenced the creation of the second installment. It’s worth mentioning that the recently released 2021 version has earned a 55% positive response from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, a site that collects reviews.

Garner expressed his hope that they could produce additional sequels and offshoots for the series, stating to FutureBoyWho2, “Understand, our aim isn’t for this film to mark the end of the franchise. Instead, we’re working on the assumption that this is just one chapter in a larger story.

Garner shared that they had future development strategies for specific characters. “We’ve got something planned for later on,” he explained, using Hiroyuki Sanada’s Hanzo Hasashi transforming into Scorpion in the initial film and Joe Taslim’s Bi-Han morphing into Noob Saibot in the sequel as illustrations. He went on to say, “These characters have progressed. I can confirm that Kano getting the metal plate in his eye is something we’re planning.

The creator made it clear that the future of the series remains flexible as it grows, implying that if more films are possible, there could be opportunities for spin-offs, additional sequels, exploring new storylines, introducing fresh characters, and developing existing ones further.

During the same interview, Garner hinted at the possibility of Rain, a beloved character from the game series, potentially making an appearance in the upcoming third film.

Mortal Kombat II premieres in US theaters on October 24, 2025.
