As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement! For over two years, whispers about the expansion of Fire Country have been circulating, and now, it’s finally happening: we’re getting a spinoff titled Sheriff Country, set to debut in the 2025 TV schedule this fall. Morena Baccarin will grace our screens as the leading lady, delving into the intricate world of Edgewater’s law enforcement.
Despite the spinoff’s organic growth, it wasn’t a decision that came easily for the actress when faced with the opportunity to join the show, and she has shared her reasons for accepting the role.
The discussion started when Morena Baccarin mentioned on Inside of You that she was preparing to film 20 episodes of Sheriff Country. This prompted the host, who has experience with network TV, to inquire if accepting the project was a challenging choice. To which, the actress replied:
Big time tough.
It’s understandable that she wouldn’t make such a decision lightly. A 20-episode TV season is no small task, and committing to a network series could mean spending quite some time on it. Besides this significant factor, there’s another major reason why this wasn’t an easy choice for Baccarin, as she herself explained.
Initially, the plan was to film here in Vancouver since Fire Country is filmed here, and it would indeed simplify production for Bruckheimer TV. During our straightforward and open discussion, we thoroughly discussed this option.
To start off, let me share that the actress, known for playing Deadpool, expressed her fondness for Sheriff Country’s concept. She’s a dedicated fan of its intricate family narrative, which revolves around her on-screen daughter struggling with rehab and her father who illegally sells marijuana. Essentially, this type of intense drama resonates deeply with the actress.
Yet, capturing scenes in Vancouver while her family resided across the country in New York proved inconvenient for her, as she articulated.
It’s an outstanding drama that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I told them, ‘This production is a no-brainer for me, but filming it in Vancouver just won’t work. My family can’t manage with three kids living in New York City under those circumstances.’ So they considered the issue, and surprisingly, they agreed to relocate the project to the East Coast, choosing to set it somewhere on the eastern seaboard instead.
It’s completely understandable. Actress Morena Baccarin is married to her “Gotham” co-star Ben McKenzie, and they have three children together – an 11-year-old she shares with her ex-husband, and a 9-year-old and a 4-year-old with McKenzie. Given the challenges of moving them at such a crucial stage in their growth and development, it’s clear why she wouldn’t want to do so. Fortunately, since “Sheriff Country” has relocated its production, this issue no longer stands as an obstacle.
To the same effect, actress Baccarin and Rosenbaum discussed how the flight from New York to Toronto takes less than two hours, and she plans to spend her weekends with her family while filming during the weeks. It’s hard for her to believe they came to an agreement on this arrangement too. Currently, Baccarin feels “cautiously optimistic” about the situation, as she elaborated:
I’m genuinely fond of the team I’m collaborating with for this show production. Bruckheimer TV has been fantastic throughout the process, making everything run smoothly. To be honest, I haven’t worked on network television in quite some time because I find the system challenging, and the 20-episode commitment is particularly tough. However, I’m cautiously hopeful about the series, and since it’s based in Toronto, I can return home every weekend. It will undoubtedly be difficult on my family, but we’ll manage, especially during summer when the kids can join us there. We’ll find a way to make it work.

With a Paramount Plus subscription, you can access CBS’s prime-time shows for just $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year. This includes the entirety of Fire Country, and soon, even the first season of Sheriff Country! Additionally, it offers an array of original content too, making it a great value for your entertainment dollar. Check out the deal now!
It appears they’ve likely given the matter careful consideration, taking both Baccarin and her entire family into account, and I am confident they will arrive at a solution.
With everything set and the actress firmly in place as the star of “Sheriff Country”, I’m eagerly anticipating its debut on CBS’s 2025-2026 schedule. It’s been a while in the making. You might recall that Mickey made her first appearance on “Fire Country” during Season 2, and we’ve been looking forward to her own series for quite some time now.
In summary, it’s evident that Morena Baccarin and the rest of the team have put considerable effort into this project. Should she agree and if production adjusts for her convenience, it promises to be a worthwhile investment of both their time and ours. Therefore, don’t forget to catch Sheriff Country starting from October 17, at 8 p.m., only on CBS.
