Morena Baccarin Had A ‘Lovely’ Time Working On Deadpool And Wolverine, But She Did Share One Part Of The Marvel Movie She Found ‘Unfortunate’

In the preceding year, the long-awaited “Deadpool & Wolverine” stood out as the sole Marvel Cinematic Universe film to hit the screens. This film naturally extended the storyline started in the first two “Deadpool” movies under the 20th Century Fox era. Many familiar faces, including Morena Baccarin, reprised their roles for this third installment. In a recent interview, she expressed that working on it was delightful, but there was an element from “Deadpool 2” that she found regrettable and carried over into “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

Why Morena Baccarin Enjoyed Working On Deadpool & Wolverine

As a seasoned movie critic, I must say that Morena Baccarin’s appearance on “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” was a delightful treat for fans like myself. She opened up about her unforgettable journey portraying a character in the “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” franchises. Although her screen time was limited, Baccarin relished the opportunity to reconnect with her fellow cast members from these films, and even had the chance to meet the legendary Wolverine actor, Hugh Jackman. In her own words, she found this experience truly rewarding.

In a natural and easy-to-understand manner: The movie was excellent and moved swiftly. It felt as though my character inhabited a unique, isolated world within the film, which we filmed separately. It was a delightful experience. I worked with familiar cast members, which made it enjoyable and rekindling old friendships was a bonus. I had the pleasure of meeting Hugh [Jackman], who was charming. The entire experience was fun and brief yet satisfying.

Initially in “Deadpool 2”, Vanessa (not yet Copycat) was killed off early. However, due to Ryan Reynolds’ character, Wade Wilson, using Cable’s time travel device to save her, Morena Baccarin’s character returned from the dead. Regrettably, by the time “Deadpool & Wolverine” started, they were no longer together and she didn’t join Wade on his multiverse adventure with the universe-crossing Wolverine. Nevertheless, it’s reassuring to learn that Baccarin enjoyed her brief return in the third movie, and at least the threequel concluded with Vanessa and Wade making up again.

The Issue Morena Baccarin Had With Deadpool & Wolverine

This leads us to the reason Morena Baccarin expressed a slight disappointment with the film “Deadpool & Wolverine.” It stemmed from the fact that, similar to before, she had less screen time than in the initial “Deadpool” movie. To begin with, she stated:

I found the movie incredibly engaging given how much depth it conveyed in such a brief production period. Whether you’ve seen it or not, the heart of the film lies in the relationship between these two characters. They have significant influence over each other – he is my motivation for self-improvement and embarking on his journey. The same can be said for the second movie. It’s fascinating because these are huge franchises with numerous decision-makers, yet they managed to tell their unique stories effectively.

In simpler terms, we can say that Wade Wilson undertook a mission to save the universe due to his personal connections, and at the end of the film, he confessed to Vanessa that this action was particularly for her. Therefore, Morena Baccarin is accurate in stating that her character forms the emotional heart in the movie titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“. However, it’s disheartening for her that Vanessa’s role seemed insignificant once more, as she went on to express.

It’s truly disappointing to see yet another tale where the female protagonist plays such a significant role initially, only to become the central focus, the driving force, and the emotional backbone, yet she lacks sufficient screen time and a fulfilling character development arc.

More On Deadpool & Wolverine

Recently, I learned about Nathan Fillion’s previously cut role in Deadpool. It seems that Ryan Reynolds made a significant effort to secure another part for him within the franchise.

Among the quips that Channing Tatum’s character, Gambit, had in Deadpool and Wolverine, there was one line that repeatedly caused Ryan Reynolds to lose his professional composure. Frankly, I can understand why.

In the film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Vanessa was among the characters including Blind Al, Dopinder, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio, and Colossus. However, Morena Baccarin’s observation seems valid. Despite Vanessa not being involved in this movie’s events, her character holds a special place in Wade’s heart, even after their separation. It appears that Baccarin feels the 34th Marvel Cinematic Universe film could have been written to allow for more of Vanessa’s presence. In essence, she may have hoped for a script that would have given her character a more significant role in this particular adventure.

I’m crossing my fingers that if Ryan Reynolds’ proposed Deadpool/X-Men collaboration gets the go-ahead, there might be an opportunity to incorporate and enhance Vanessa’s role. Meanwhile, this weekend unveils a fresh take on Earth in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, while the exploration of the multiverse within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reach a critical juncture with the release of Avengers: Doomsday next year.
