Monarch Season 2 RT Score Is Good but Worse Than Season 1

Initial reviews for the new season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters are coming in with a lower score on Rotten Tomatoes than the first season. Critics’ first impressions suggest this latest installment in the MonsterVerse series isn’t being received as well as its debut, and this is being noted as the premiere approaches.

What Monarch Season 2 reviews are saying

Meagan Navarro from Bloody Disgusting praised the new season as thrilling and a confident step forward, noting that it successfully expands the MonsterVerse in exciting directions.

As a big cinema fan, I was pretty disappointed with ‘Monarch,’ according to a review by Joonatan Itkonen. He gave it a 2 out of 5, and his take was that the series really struggles with its identity. It feels all over the place, like a clunky old car sputtering along – it just doesn’t quite work.

Tara Bennett from IGN Movies gave Season 2 of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ an 8 out of 10, praising it as the best Monsterverse series for successfully combining exciting monster action with a strong, engaging story focused on its characters.

Jeremy Mathai from Slashfilm gave the film a 5 out of 10 rating, criticizing it for relying on forced drama and unclear character motivations instead of a well-developed and satisfying story.

In a review for RogerEbert.com, Rendy Jones praised the series as its strongest installment yet, noting it successfully continues the story from the previous one. However, he also pointed out that it starts slowly, building up to a satisfying payoff, much like Godzilla’s iconic atomic breath.

David Caballero from Collider gave the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters a 7 out of 10, praising its focus on the Titans, which he felt is what viewers wanted.

Steven Nguyen Scaife from Slant Magazine rated the season 1.5 out of 4 stars, criticizing it for being overly focused on dramatic family conflicts and romantic entanglements, even more so than the previous season.

Monarch Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t as good as Season 1

The second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters currently has a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a bit lower than the 86% score of the first season. Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t yet published an audience score for the new season, but the first season earned a 76% audience approval rating from over 1,000 viewers.

Apple TV will premiere Season 2 on February 27, 2026.
