Mister Terrific Is Superman’s Real Hero & Deserves an HBO Max Show

I truly enjoyed the latest Superman film, but I must admit that I found myself more captivated by the supporting characters. Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor was exceptional and stole the show, while Metamorpho managed to win me over. Jimmy Olsen demonstrated his journalistic skills admirably, and several characters showed excellent chemistry together. However, I felt that there was too much focus on the main character in canine form for my liking.

To be honest, I’ve always had difficulty connecting with Superman, primarily due to typical reasons, but also because he often feels less interesting than other characters within his own storyline. The actor playing the lead did a commendable job, making the character feel more human and reasonable, even if I didn’t resonate with his struggle personally.

Among all the heroes, Mister Terrific was the one I found myself yearning to learn more about. It’s not that I have trouble saying the actor’s name; it’s simply that for me, he was the most intriguing character in this film.

In a world where deities seem to be grappling with their relevance alongside humans, it’s awe-inspiring to witness an ordinary individual elevate themselves, giving off an aura of divine power. This was my experience when I laid eyes on Mister Terrific, leaving Lois Lane speechless and in admiration within his protective dome, initially leading her to believe he’d remain inside while his T-Spheres handled the heavy workload. Yet, his actions served as a reminder of why one should never underestimate the “smart one.” With an air of confidence, as if he were the rightful owner, he walked into the room unfazed by the armored henchmen, focused solely on the task at hand, treating them as mere formalities.

A significant part involves the technology he uses to track his teammates, but it’s also clear that this man is an exceptional athlete, excelling in various martial arts. His movements are smooth and graceful, like a well-choreographed dance with his robotic partners. Meanwhile, his opponents seem disorganized and clumsy, taking multiple hits. He even uses one of his companions to gain a strategic advantage, perhaps also to demonstrate his skills. There’s a hint of arrogance in his actions, which is consistent with being highly intelligent. The character maintains a cold, calculated demeanor that adds depth to the overall impression.

The individual exudes a strong, no-nonsense demeanor, combined with a deep sense of integrity, ethics, and sound judgment. However, he is also direct and to-the-point in his actions, making him focused on tasks at hand. In the scene, we see him deploying T-Spheres within a creature and subsequently setting off explosions in its internal organs. Remarkably, he’s the only one ready to lend a hand to Lois, but he avoids getting involved with emotional or interpersonal issues. As for his garage door, it would be nice if it could be repaired.

What slightly disappointed me was how Terrific seemed to be absent during the final major battle against Engineer and Ultraman. I had expected him to play a bigger role, given that nanites were primarily used against Superman. However, he had an impressive moment towards the end. Throughout the story, he didn’t overreact, but instead demonstrated a realistic understanding of how dire these situations could be, often through raised voices and swearing (which happens to be my preferred way of communication). When things looked grim for the city, someone suggested that Terrific could help, to which he responded by palm-slapping and pushing away in a show of self-assuredness. This was his moment to excel. His confident response in the post-credits scene when Superman complained about the imperfectly rebuilt buildings was particularly heroic. I found it enjoyable.

Why a Mister Terrific HBO Max show would be a great move for the new DCU

Given his outstanding performance in the film, and my eagerness for more greatness, I wasn’t entirely surprised to learn that this hero is being considered for his own HBO Max series, sharing screen time with Jimmy Olsen, Metropolis’ top journalist and CMS master, portrayed by Skyler Gisondo. I hope others feel the same way, but if anyone requires additional persuasion, Mister Terrific is nearly flawless – just observe the man who brings the character to life. Edi Gathegi views this Superman role as a means of compensating for his limited involvement in X-Men: First Class, where he was promised more opportunities for his character without delivery. In his new role, the actor feels empowered to save the world, and he underwent extensive training to convincingly portray that ability. Moreover, he’s inspiring children to embrace their intelligence and nerdier sides, reminding us all that brains can be a superpower too.

Gathegi is excited to leverage this chance and the character to perform some positive actions, and he’s ready to once again don the cape of the hero for future projects. There are numerous tales to spin with Mr. Terrific, be it as a supporting actor, a team member, or embarking on solo adventures – it seems there isn’t much this character can’t tackle. He is an impressive figure, boasting a wide range of skills (not forgetting his multiple doctorates) and a strong desire to make a difference. If the aim of this Superman movie was to demonstrate the wonders of the DC Universe, particularly through lesser-known characters, I’m all in. Now, all they need to do is follow through and deliver more Mr. Terrific content.

Terrific didn’t like the dog much either, I’m just saying.
