Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Series Release Date Is Here—Horror Fans Rejoice!

Mike Flanagan, renowned for his work on Netflix series like “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” and “Midnight Mass,” has some exciting news about his next horror project. Instead of continuing with Netflix, he’s moving to Amazon’s Prime Video to bring a new take on a classic horror story to life on screen.

Flanagan’s upcoming venture is a modern television adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling horror masterpiece, “Carrie.” The production received the go-ahead in April and is gearing up to start filming this summer. As of now, Amazon hasn’t announced an official air date for “Carrie,” but Flanagan has hinted at its release timeline through his social media account Letterboxd. In response to a comment on his review of “Fréwaka” on Letterboxd, Flanagan stated that instead of a series launching in 2025, fans can expect to stream “Carrie” on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.

I recently finished binge-watching ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ on Netflix. Now I’m moving to Amazon, but there won’t be any new series from me this year. Instead, I have a movie coming out in theaters called ‘The Life of Chuck.’ As for 2026, my production ‘Carrie’ will debut on Amazon Prime.

Carrie will serve as Flanagan’s first television production since 2023’s The Fall of the House of Usher. This project also signifies his return to the horror genre, having ventured into sci-fi drama with his 2025 release, The Life of Chuck (another Stephen King adaptation). During this period, Flanagan has also penned a script for a Clayface film set in the new DC Universe.

Other notable titles set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2026 are the Marvel series “Spider-Noir”, the last season of “The Boys”, and “Elle”, a spin-off series preceding “Legally Blonde”.

What to Expect From Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Series

For the first time, Stephen King’s novel “Carrie” will be adapted for television instead of being made into a movie. Although four films have been produced from this horror high school story, with the initial film (featuring Sissy Spacek) receiving two Academy Award nominations, and the 2013 adaptation garnering only a 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the closest a TV version has come was in Season 2’s musical episode of “Riverdale,” which was inspired by “Carrie: The Musical.

Flanagan’s TV adaptation appears to closely follow King’s original narrative, as suggested by its description in Variety as a “bold and relevant” reinterpretation of the story. The series focuses on Carrie, who grapples with a “bullying controversy” while also exploring her “mysterious psychic abilities.

Carrie is a fresh, modern take on the tale of Carrie White, an outcast high-schooler who has spent most of her life sheltered by her overbearing mother. Following her father’s unexpected and untimely demise, Carrie navigates the unfamiliar territory of public school, faces a bullying incident that rocks her social circle, and discovers she possesses strange telekinetic abilities.

Amazon supports the revival of the “Carrie” series, with Mike Flanagan set to pen, produce, and oversee the project. The story will be based on Stephen King’s famous horror novel about the socially isolated teenager Carrie White, who learns about her psychic abilities during high school. The series is scheduled for eight episodes. As for the cast, Summer H. Howell might play Carrie, with Siena Agudong taking on the role of Sue Snell, according to Variety’s reports.

Among all potential creators, Flanagan appears to be the most suitable choice for reviving the television series “Carrie“. This gifted horror filmmaker has demonstrated a knack for adapting Stephen King’s tales for the screen, as evidenced by his work on films like “Gerald’s Game“, “Doctor Sleep“, and more recently, “The Life of Chuck“. His adaptations showcase his ability to translate King’s stories into different mediums effectively. Furthermore, Flanagan’s series such as “The Fall of the House of Usher“, “The Midnight Club“, and “The Haunting of Hill House” are all adaptations of renowned horror stories, further strengthening his impressive portfolio in this field.
