Michael B. Jordan has won an Oscar! The acclaimed actor, known for his work in films like Creed and Black Panther, as well as earlier roles in The Wire and Friday Night Lights, received the Best Actor award at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026. He won for his performance playing two characters, Smoke and Stack, in the movie Sinners.
Winning an Oscar is a major turning point for Jordan, who was already a popular and accomplished actor, with ambitions to direct and a strong working relationship with Ryan Coogler. This award solidifies his position in Hollywood and officially recognizes him as an Academy Award winner.
Wow, after the incredible reception to Sinners and now winning an Oscar, Michael B. Jordan is going to be huge. It’s a massive moment – he’s only the sixth Black actor ever to take home Best Actor! And you could really feel that weight of history in his acceptance speech; he clearly understands what this win means and the responsibility that comes with being a trailblazer.
I appreciate all your support and belief in me, and I’m determined to keep improving and becoming the best I can be. Thank you for continuing to have faith in me.
Jordan is still deciding on his long-term career path and figuring out what he wants to achieve in the next 5 to 10 years. Here’s a current overview of his potential future.

I’m so excited for Jordan! He’s not letting any time pass after his Oscar win – he already has a new project coming out! He’s going to be the voice of a really cute otter-like character in Netflix’s animated movie, Swapped, which comes out on May 1st. It’s great to see him staying so busy and creative!
I’m really excited about Swapped! It’s directed by Nathan Greno, who did Tangled, and John Lassetter, a former creative force at Pixar, is producing. The voice cast sounds fantastic too – Jordan is joined by Juno Temple, Tracy Morgan, and Cedric the Entertainer, among others. I can’t wait to see what they’ve created!

Despite winning an Oscar, Michael B. Jordan plans to continue making big-budget, popular films, something he’s done consistently for more than ten years. He’s already finished filming a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair, which will be released on March 5, 2027. This summer, starting in June, he’ll begin shooting a reboot of Miami Vice directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Austin Butler. This will be his first project after his Oscar win, and it’s scheduled to come out on August 6, 2027.
Michael B. Jordan is committed to continuing the Creed series. He’s set to return for a fourth film as Adonis Creed, even if the story focuses more on his daughter, which would give him a supporting role. However, there are currently no plans for when the movie will be released or when filming will begin.
Michael B. Jordan has been connected to potential sequels for Rainbow Six and I Am Legend 2 for quite some time. While neither project has progressed much lately, the studios involved might now reconsider them, hoping to work with Jordan after his recent Best Actor win.
Following his 2021 action movie, Without Remorse, a sequel titled Rainbow Six was planned. In 2023, Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, signed on to direct. Though he gave a positive update in late 2024, he’s now working on different projects. Now it’s up to Amazon MGM Studios to move the film forward, and they may be inclined to do so, considering their good working relationship with the star through films like Creed and The Thomas Crown Affair.
A sequel to Will Smith’s 2007 film I Am Legend has been in development with Michael B. Jordan set to co-star since 2022. Smith has said Jordan’s character would lead a new community that his character, Robert Neville, discovers. Warner Bros. was previously negotiating with Steven Caple Jr., the director of Creed II, to direct the movie. Given Warner Bros.’ positive experience working with Jordan on Sinners, there’s hope that this collaboration will help bring I Am Legend 2 to fruition.
In 2019, news emerged that Jordan was developing a large-scale action movie, Methuselah, at Warner Bros. Danny Boyle was hired to direct, and after some revisions, the film began to move away from its original biblical themes, with hopes of creating a franchise. However, the project stalled over the past five years, and it’s likely it will never be made.
Michael B. Jordan will have chances to show he’s a reliable draw for movie audiences with films like The Thomas Crown Affair, Creed IV, and I Am Legend 2. While these projects may not be Oscar contenders, they’ll now benefit from the added publicity of starring an “Academy Award winner.”
More Ryan Coogler Collaborations
Michael B. Jordan consistently works with director Ryan Coogler, a collaboration that’s become a hallmark of his career. Jordan starred in Coogler’s first film, 2013’s Fruitvale Station, and Coogler has continued to cast him in significant roles, including Apollo Creed’s son in Creed and the villain Killmonger in Black Panther.
Michael B. Jordan has been in every film directed by Ryan Coogler, including a brief appearance as Killmonger in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the lead role in Sinners. Their long-standing working relationship has created a strong connection, and they plan to continue collaborating on projects whenever their schedules allow, similar to how Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio often work with Martin Scorsese.
Although a sequel to Sinners probably won’t happen, Jordan and Coogler have another potential project in the works. Back in 2017, they planned a drama called Wrong Answer, where Jordan would star as a teacher involved in a cheating scandal, and Coogler would direct. The project was put on hold because of Coogler’s other projects, but it remains a possibility for future collaboration.
I’m really excited about Black Panther 3! It’s confirmed that Ryan Coogler is directing, and while the multiverse opens up a lot of possibilities, it seems unlikely Michael B. Jordan will be back as the main character. Still, given how often he’s popped up recently, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him make another cameo as Killmonger. I’m hoping for it, honestly!
Whether or not future projects face challenges, Jordan is sure to be among the first people director Coogler contacts for any new film. Their successful collaboration, particularly on Sinners, will likely ensure they continue working together.
Continuing To Grow As A Director
Most people know Michael B. Jordan as an actor, but he’s now stepping behind the camera as a director. His first feature film as director, Creed III, was impressive and hinted at his potential as a storyteller. He successfully directed his actors, brought a unique, anime-inspired style to the fight scenes, and told a deeply personal story, proving he’s a talented director as well as an actor.
After winning an Oscar, the director plans to keep challenging himself creatively. He didn’t just star in The Thomas Crown Affair; he also directed the updated version. The film features a talented ensemble cast including Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Aubrey Plaza, Ruth Negga, Pilou Asbæk, Aiysha Hart, and Paapa Essiedu. He’s also working with Bradford Young, a cinematographer who has been nominated for an Oscar for his work on Arrival.
Jordan will be heavily involved with The Thomas Crown Affair over the next year, preparing it for release next spring while also filming Miami Vice. Once those projects wrap up, he’s expected to begin work on directing Creed IV.
It’ll be exciting to see what Jordan does with his directing once he moves beyond the ‘Invincible Parent’ universe. It would be fantastic if he directed an original story, letting us really see his skills outside of established franchises.
Beyond directing, Jordan will also be expanding his work as a producer. Through his production company, Outlier Society, he’s planning to produce several of the projects he’s already involved with, plus a new series based on the Creed universe called Delphi, and a show about Muhammad Ali, titled The Greatest.
More Movies With Oscar Potential Will Come Now

Now that Jordan has won an Oscar, his future movie projects seem to lack the kind of dramatic role that could earn him another nomination or award. While Wrong Answer might be a possibility if it gets made, he’s currently focusing too much on action, science fiction, and established franchises.
He’s incredibly talented, and his outstanding work in Sinners has proven it to everyone. Because of this, he should have no problem finding great roles if he wants to continue acting. Expect directors and producers to be eager to work with him on exciting new projects – it won’t be long before he’s starring in a film from a company like A24, Focus Features, Neon, or Searchlight, likely directed by someone up-and-coming.
While Sinners wasn’t a guaranteed Oscar winner, it was the film that ultimately earned Jordan his award. His path to future Oscars might depend on consistently collaborating with top-tier directors, no matter the type of movie. Perhaps a partnership with someone like Jordan Peele, Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Greta Gerwig, or Denis Villeneuve could lead Michael B. Jordan to another Oscar win.
