Megyn Kelly Just Called Out Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel And Other Late Night Hosts (While Praising Conan O’Brien)

President Trump and late-night TV hosts have frequently criticized each other – Trump targeting the shows, and the hosts often joking about his administration and even White House decor. Recently, Conan O’Brien, a former late-night host, shared his concerns about how getting overly angry about politics onstage can negatively impact a comedian’s persona and become risky. This led Megyn Kelly to discuss Conan’s perspective, as well as the broader state of late-night television.

What Did Conan O’Brien Say About ‘F–k Donald Trump’

You’ve probably seen the news: Conan O’Brien recently spoke at Oxford Union and cautioned against building your entire identity around opposing Donald Trump, suggesting it can be a bit risky.

Some comedians seem to focus entirely on criticizing Trump, and that becomes their whole act. But when comedy is just fueled by anger, it can actually backfire. It’s like being distracted by rage – you end up heading towards trouble without realizing it, similar to a sailor lured onto the rocks by a siren’s song.

He believes a comedian’s role is to transform anger into something insightful and daring; otherwise, they risk losing their humor.

It’s easy to fall into just repeating negative things about Trump, letting frustration take over. But I think constantly expressing anger has actually weakened your most effective tool: your ability to use humor.

Conan doesn’t think comedians should be overly serious, but his recent comments have sparked a lot of online discussion. People are especially focusing on how they relate to the approaches of late-night hosts like Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel. Megyn Kelly recently shared her thoughts on the matter on her show, The Megyn Kelly Show.

How Megyn Kelly Feels About Late Night (And Conan O’Brien’s Opinions)

Megyn Kelly explained to Link Lauren that while watching Conan O’Brien speak, she believed he was clearly criticizing Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert.

Honestly, it’s wild to watch. He’s really going after those late-night guys, you know? Fallon gets a pass mostly, but Colbert, Kimmel, and especially Seth Meyers – he’s really going after Meyers. And don’t even get me started on John Oliver, it feels like that’s all they do – just react to things. It’s pretty one-dimensional when you think about it.

Jimmy Fallon generally avoids criticism from Megyn Kelly. Although he sometimes makes jokes about Trump, his show mostly steers clear of politics, with only occasional quick jabs in his opening monologue. He’s more famous for playing fun games with celebrities than for making serious political points, and he’s previously explained why The Tonight Show doesn’t focus on political issues.

Kelly didn’t hold back when criticizing other late-night hosts. Interestingly, back in 2011, she was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shared a heartwarming story about being invited to the White House to meet President and Mrs. Obama.

Over a decade after the initial controversy, she’s much more critical of the late-night host, especially after he likened his brief suspension from ABC to a life-threatening event. She dedicated a significant portion of her show to calling Jimmy Kimmel a “privileged multimillionaire” who complained despite being off the air for only five days. This follows her earlier comments in September, when she suggested Kimmel’s return to late night was due to his political views, rather than genuine support.

This isn’t the first time the host has publicly criticized Hollywood. She’s recently spoken about negative experiences with stars like Bruce Willis, and feels the entertainment industry has become overly focused on criticizing Donald Trump. This latest outburst appears to be her reaction to that trend.

Interestingly, while Megyn Kelly thought Conan O’Brien was discussing other late-night hosts, O’Brien actually used to host a late-night show himself. He even recently offered Stephen Colbert guidance on his future plans after ‘The Late Show’ ends.
