The new Star Wars show, “Maul – Shadow Lord,” has been announced with an impressive trailer. Early details suggest the franchise may have found a fantastic successor to the beloved protocol droid, C-3PO.
C-3PO is a beloved and essential character in the original Star Wars trilogy, famously helping Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Some fans even believe he’s the architect of the entire story! However, the newest Star Wars show appears poised to introduce a replacement for him, thanks to a clever casting choice.
The comic series Maul – Shadow Lord further develops Darth Maul’s look and story, giving the famous Star Wars villain his own spotlight. The main conflict will center around Janix police detective Brander Lawson, who is assisted by his droid companion, Two-Boots – a droid with a personality reminiscent of C-3PO.
Two-Boots Will Be The Perfect C-3PO Replacement In Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord
Even before the show Ahsoka, Star Wars was planning for C-3PO’s eventual replacement. Professor Huyang, the lightsaber droid from Ahsoka, is expected to appear in future Star Wars films. Fans fondly call C-3PO “Threepio,” and actor Anthony Daniels suggested in 2019 that The Rise of Skywalker would likely be his final time playing the character.
For a long time, the series hadn’t featured a droid as funny and quirky as the iconic R2-D2. But with Two-Boots, the creators of Maul – Shadow Lord have finally created a new character who captures that same anxious and clumsy charm.
Star Wars Casting Richard Ayoade As Two-Boots Is A Stroke Of Genius
Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed that the droid, Two-Boots, will assist Detective Brander Lawson. His name comes from the unique boots he wears. However, we mostly understand his personality through the actor playing the role.
Richard Ayoade previously appeared in Star Wars: The Mandalorian as Q9-0, a droid working with a group of mercenaries. While that role was small and didn’t showcase his talents, his new character, Two-Boots, will be much more prominent. It’s difficult to think of a comedian who could sound and act more like C-3PO than Ayoade does when he’s performing.
Two-Boots Could Become The Funniest Star Wars Droid Of All Time
The trailer for Maul – Shadow Lord only shows us a little bit of Two-Boots, so it’s hard to know what his personality will be like. However, looking at Richard Ayoade’s background – he’s a funny actor, comedian, writer, and director – gives us a good hint.
With his incredibly clever humor, unpredictable digressions, and anxious tendencies, Two-Boots has the potential to be the funniest droid in Star Wars history. While K-2SO from Rogue One and Andor is known for his sarcasm, Two-Boots seems poised to be even funnier.
C-3PO is a divisive character for many Star Wars fans, but a lot of viewers are excited to see Richard Ayoade take on the role. The new series, Maul – Shadow Lord, will primarily follow Maul and a young hero named Devon Izara, played by Gideon Adlon. However, the character known as Two-Boots will also be important and could end up being a standout.
