The next phase of the MCU will reportedly borrow a familiar DCU plot point.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m keeping a close eye on everything happening in the MCU. We’re currently in what they call Phase Six, and it’s all building towards the big ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ movie in 2027. After that, though, everyone’s predicting a major shift. While Marvel hasn’t officially said anything yet, it seems almost certain that Phase Seven will really dive into the world of mutants and the X-Men, which is incredibly exciting!
What DCU plot point will the MCU’s next phase reportedly use?
Marvel is planning a bigger role for the Department of Damage Control (DODC) in upcoming projects, according to Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus. First appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the DODC originally functioned as a team to clean up messes and store tech, operating under Tony Stark. Since Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame, the organization has shifted its focus to monitoring people with enhanced abilities.
A new report reveals the Department of Defense Containment (DODC) is now looking beyond well-known superheroes for individuals with hidden superhuman powers. These people are being held at a highly secure prison called Damage Control Supermax, where they’re being watched and studied with no outside regulation. Sources say we’ll see this prison again in the upcoming Wonder Man series, where the DODC plans to capture and imprison Simon Williams.
According to Perez, the Department of Damage Control (DODC) will become an organization dedicated to policing mutants in Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’ll be focused on capturing anyone with superpowers who isn’t operating with official permission – meaning anyone who isn’t an Avenger.
This echoes a central plotline in the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. There, Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., is determined to eliminate anyone with superpowers who he considers a threat – which seems to be almost everyone. In the second season of Peacemaker, Rick teams up with Lex Luthor to build a prison planet called Salvation, where he plans to exile these so-called dangerous individuals.
Currently, this is only a rumor, and should be considered as such. Fans will probably need to be patient before Marvel Studios reveals its plans for Phase 7.
