MCU X-Men: Complete List of Marvel Mutants (Through Avengers: Doomsday)

Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are eagerly anticipating the introduction of X-Men in the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday”, as well as a separate X-Men film. However, some members of the X-Men and their adversaries have already appeared within the MCU. Notably, Professor X and Reed Richards made an appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in 2022, which was followed by a surge of mutants in “Deadpool & Wolverine”. Among these new mutant characters, Blade and Gambit are slated for future significant roles within the MCU, while unfortunate events led to the demise of characters such as Toad.

Eagerly anticipating the forthcoming Marvel X-Men film and its impact on the Multiverse storyline, let me refresh your memory about the mutants who have already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Every Mutant & X-Men Already in the MCU

Deadpool

In the initial sequence of Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool himself provides the narration, illuminating the intricate political situations and deals that resulted in his MCU introduction. The 2024 film saw the self-proclaimed Marvel Messiah leaping through timeframes to ensure his own survival. But after being cast into the Void, Deadpool encountered an influx of acquainted and unusual characters, with the most striking being the group of Deadpool counterparts known as the Deadpool Corps.

It’s fascinating to consider the possibility of these characters, such as Dogpool and Ladypool, with similar regenerative powers, potentially making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even though there’s no definitive evidence yet. These versions exhibit slightly varied personalities and styles compared to their original counterparts.

Wolverine

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Wolverine was among the initial X-Men characters who made a significant debut. A different take on the mutant character emerged during the storyline of Wade Wilson, where fans embarked on an adventure that filled the role of the Anchor Being. This tale also showcased multiple renditions of Wolverine.

In the midst of the mayhem within “Deadpool and Wolverine,” Marvel discreetly introduced a portrayal of Wolverine, played by Henry Cavill. Deadpool was taken aback by the similarity to Cavill, and in a somewhat playful jab at the DC Universe, he hinted that Marvel would give him a warmer welcome compared to his previous universe.

Professor X

In a notable appearance, the head of the X-Men team, Professor Charles Xavier, first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe together with Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four, as part of an exclusive group known as the Illuminati. Patrick Stewart resumed the character for the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“.

It’s confirmed that Xavier will appear in the MCU film, “Avengers: Doomsday.” But since hints suggest a potential reboot for the X-Men series, it’s possible that Marvel may change his appearance or ethnicity, casting a different actor as Professor X.

Ms. Marvel

Iman Vellani’s character, Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, is one of Marvel’s relatively newer superheroes. She obtains her powers from a pair of enchanted bracelets that let her transform light into solid matter – learn more about the powers Ms. Marvel exhibits in the MCU.

Despite the debate sparked by her introduction to the MCU, when Marvel chose to replace her original elastic powers reminiscent of Mr. Fantastic with a power set akin to Green Lantern, Kamala swiftly gained attention for being a unique character within the franchise.

Cassandra Nova

In simpler terms, Cassandra Nova – who shares the same origins as Professor X – governs a chaotic, Mad Max-esque realm known as the Void, which she was exiled to as a child. Currently, she is among the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, due to her Omega-level abilities. Her powers encompass controlling physical objects (telekinesis), reading and manipulating thoughts through touch (tactile telepathy), and influencing other people’s minds (mental manipulation).

King Ch’ah Toh Almehen (Namor)

King Ch’ah Toh Almehen, famously known as Namor, is a mutant leader hailing from the underwater realm of Talokan. His first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, leaving fans intrigued by his relationship and potential romantic connections with Shuri.

In the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” Tenoch Huerta is slated to reappear. Yet, his role is yet to be defined – whether he’ll side with the heroes or villains – following his departure from Shuri in the closing scenes of “Wakanda Forever.

X-23 (Laura)

In the story of Deadpool and Wolverine, an entertaining subplot involved Deadpool’s persistent attempt to become part of the Avengers. However, his plans didn’t exactly pan out as he intended. Nevertheless, the wisecracking mercenary was able to rally a surprisingly formidable group of allies.

In the battle, it was X-23 who managed to persuade the skeptical Wolverine to rejoin the fray and also played a part in recovering Juggernaut’s helmet. Famously introduced in the film Logan and played by Dafne Keen, Laura shares a genetic connection with Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine as she is his clone. She possesses his regenerative healing ability, sharp adamantium claws, and exceptional fighting skills.

Gambit

In the upcoming MCU film “Avengers: Doomsday,” the mutant character Gambit is set to make a comeback. Known for imbuing extremely potent energy into objects, often his staff and signature playing cards, he can trigger explosions with them. Channing Tatum has portrayed this unique character, whose Cajun accent and distinctive attire add an additional flair to Gambit.

Initially, Deadpool and Wolverine seemed to stir up a bit of conflict between Gambit and Wolverine; however, when it came to the attack on Cassandra Nova’s stronghold within the Void, it was Gambit who joined forces with them instead.

Juggernaut

In the storyline of Deadpool & Wolverine, Juggernaut served as one of Cassandra Nova’s henchmen. Despite having a smaller role, his helmet had the ability to limit Cassandra Nova’s powers and control her potent mutant abilities.

Pyro

I, John Allerdyce, often referred to as Pyro, possess an extraordinary ability – pyrokinesis, enabling me to command fire at will. My unique talent made me serve in a dual capacity for both the Paradox and Cassandra Nova.

In simpler terms, Pyro’s main motivation stemmed from his hidden anger towards Cassandra Nova and his longing to break free from the Void. Although this mutant character was written out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans are optimistic about his potential comeback. Clues indicate that the Pyro seen in the 2024 film might be a different version of the original character.

Beast

For close to two decades, Beast has been a key character in the initial X-Men movies produced by Fox. Now, he’s all set to grace our screens once more, this time in Avengers: Doomsday. This exciting return is made possible following the mentions of mutant professor Beast and his introduction from an alternate timeline in Deadpool and Wolverine. This occurred in The Marvels. Fans are particularly thrilled about this turn of events as Kelsey Grammer will be reprising his role once more.

Blob

In the comic books, The Blob was part of the Brotherhood of Mutants. His unique ability bestowed upon him elastic, jelly-like skin that made him incredibly tough. However, during the Deadpool & Wolverine series, The Blob played a relatively minor role, appearing as a henchman and guard at Cassandra Nova’s compound within the Void.

Callisto

In the captivating world of Deadpool & Wolverine, I was among the numerous mutants dwellers in the enigmatic Void. As a mutant endowed with extraordinary swiftness, I found myself at the forefront when our resistance stormed the imposing stronghold of Cassandra Nova.

Colossus

As the colossal metal mutant Colossus, I was honored to once again embody my character at the lively birthday bash for everyone’s favorite wise-cracking hero, Wade Wilson, in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Lady Deathstrike

One notable foe of Wolverine, known as Lady Deathstrike, is equipped with adamantium claws, has the ability to heal quickly, and demonstrates expert martial arts and acrobatic prowess. In the second X-Men movie series, she served as Colonel William Stryker’s bodyguard. Similar to other characters, she held a smaller role in the film titled “Deadpool & Wolverine” where she was one of the henchmen in the Void.

Psylocke

In the film “X-Men: Apocalypse”, Psylocke is introduced in a sequence within the Deadpool universe, serving as Cassandra Nova’s henchman. During a perilous confrontation with the resistance, Psylocke made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, but it was cut short when X-23 fatally wounded her. Prior to this, Psylocke had fashioned a lethal purple psychic whip to attack X-23.

Quill

Previously known from the film “X-Men: The Last Stand“, played by Ken Leung, the character of Quill underwent a recast in “Deadpool & Wolverine>” with Nilly Cetin stepping into the role as an alternative version. This mutant character is distinguished by quills resembling a porcupine on her body. Exiled to the Void, she became a right-hand man for the oppressive Cassandra Nova. In a confrontation against Elektra, Quill was mortally wounded in the chest and met her end.

Sabretooth

In simpler terms, Victor Creed – often referred to as Sabretooth – was a mutant possessing animal-like abilities who worked for Cassandra Nova within a location known as the Void, a dumping ground for mutants. Upon their initial arrival in the Void, it was Sabretooth who initially encountered both Wolverine and Deadpool. Yet, during an attack on Wolverine, he lost his head.

Toad

Even though Toad is commonly known as an arch-enemy of the X-Men, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was initially presented as one of Cassandra Nova’s mutant protectors. Unfortunately, his neck met a grim end at the edge of Blade’s relentless blade.

Yukio

In the X-Men film series by 20th Century Fox, Yukio was prominently featured. She is an X-Man and the romantic interest of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Despite limited screen time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Yukio briefly appeared during a birthday scene in Deadpool & Wolverine, portrayed as one of Wade Wilson’s close companions.

Azazel

In simpler terms, Azazel is a character portrayed as demonic with red skin and teleportation powers. He appears in the comic series ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, where he was exiled to the Void and subsequently joined forces with Cassandra Nova’s team. Eventually, Blade took his life.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Characterized by actress Brianna Hildebrand, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is a mutant who possesses the unique talent of emitting powerful energy blasts from her body, a trait that led to her memorable nickname, Negasonic Teenage Warhead. She joined forces with Deadpool and Colossus and later proved to be one of Deadpool’s most trusted allies following her role in rescuing his girlfriend. In addition to this, Negasonic Teenage Warhead made an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, where she was spotted joining in the festivities for Wade’s birthday alongside his companions.

Arclight

In the film “X-Men: The Last Stand,” Omahyra Mota’s character, Arclight, made her entrance as a secondary character. This mutant possesses the ability to generate powerful shockwaves by simply clapping her hands. Later on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Arclight was introduced by Mota in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as a minor adversary, fighting alongside Cassandra Nova’s guards. In the skirmish with the Resistance, Arclight proved formidable but met her end at the hands of X-23.

X-Men Confirmed To Appear in Unreleased MCU Projects

Cyclops

Cyclops, being one of the main X-Men characters, appeared in four X-Men films, starting with the first X-Men up to Days of Future Past. Given the significant challenges presented in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s possible that Cyclops might collaborate with the Avengers in future movies.

Night Crawler

Doomsday”.

In 2003, Alan Cumming took on the role of the teleporting mutant in the film “X2: X-Men United”. However, another actor, Kodi Smit-McPhee, portrayed this character in “X-Men: Apocalypse” (2016) and “Dark Phoenix” (2019).

Mystique

In the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday“, Mystique is set to make her appearance once more, with Rebecca Romijn reprising her role as this esteemed character.

In the X-Men trilogy, Romijn initially embodied Mystique, and she made a brief appearance again in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. However, it was Jennifer Lawrence who eventually assumed the character later on.

Magneto

In the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, fans can be reassured that Magneto, the Master of Magnetism who was absent in Deadpool & Wolverine, will once again make an appearance. Renowned actor Ian McKellen is set to reprise his legendary role as this formidable X-Men villain.
