A new fan theory suggests Marvel is setting up a third team of Avengers before the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, and the clues might be appearing in the new Disney+ series, Wonder Man.
Wonder Man Seems Set to Introduce a New Avengers Roster
Disney+ has begun sharing details about the upcoming series Wonder Man. Trailers show a world where Hollywood has prohibited superpowered individuals after the emergence of a hero named Doorman.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams, who secretly has superpowers and is trying to land a part as a superhero – ironically, while keeping his own abilities hidden.
Although Wonder Man has had his own comic book series, he’s mostly known as a member of the West Coast Avengers. Considering what we now know about the show and Marvel’s tendency to create multiple teams, it seems likely the series will conclude with the formation of a new West Coast Avengers lineup, and Wonder Man will be a central figure in it.
The MCU Is Building an Army of Superhero Teams
Lately, Marvel movies have been focused on assembling lots of different superhero teams. It feels like they’re preparing for a major showdown with Doctor Doom and want to have a huge superhero force ready. We’ve seen the Thunderbolts take on a role similar to the Avengers (even though Captain America objected!), and recent previews have hinted at the arrival of the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Plus, fans have been expecting a Young Avengers team for a while now.

Given Marvel’s history, it’s not surprising they’re adding another team of Avengers. They’ve already explored the dynamic between the original and newer Avengers, and Avengers: Doomsday seems poised to include every Marvel team imaginable. Wonder Man arrives at a perfect time to add yet another group to the mix.
How Wonder Man Can Introduce a New Avengers Roster
New information about the upcoming Wonder Man project suggests that two different Avengers teams – specifically, the West Coast Avengers – will likely be combined within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s established history.
First appearing in 1984, the West Coast Avengers were created as a Los Angeles-based team to extend heroic protection across the entire United States. While the team has had many different lineups over the years, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, and Wonder Man have been consistent members. If Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character, Simon Williams, possesses superpowers, the West Coast Avengers would be a fitting team for him to join.
And then you have the Great Lakes Avengers. They’re basically seen as a joke – a team of minor-league heroes who use the Avengers name without getting permission. But surprisingly, they have actually saved the world before.
Doorman has been with the team for a long time and is always seen with his gadgets. Given how important those gadgets are to his storylines, it’s likely the GLA (presumably the organization that created or maintains them) will play a big role too.
Who Else Could Serve on Wonder Man’s West Coast/Great Lakes Avengers?
Because of the rule preventing superpowered people from openly working in Hollywood, a hidden community of individuals with abilities is likely to be drawn to Wonder Man, potentially during or after his show on Disney+.
Mister Immortal and She-Hulk are strong possibilities. Both characters appeared in the Disney+ series She-Hulk, where Jennifer Walters works as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles. Mister Immortal, also known as Craig Hollis, is a uniquely challenging character – he’s an immortal man who repeatedly fakes his own death to escape detection when his age starts to raise questions.
Honestly, watching these Disney+ heroes, I could totally picture them hanging out in Hollywood. And if you put all four of them together, it would basically be like seeing a perfect blend of the Avengers teams we grew up with in the comics – it’s a dream team-up!
Will Wonder Man Introduce the West Coast Avengers?
Okay, so I’ve been digging into the buzz around the upcoming Wonder Man series, and it’s clear this character, and even Doorman, are really central to their teams – maybe even more so than iconic figures like Captain America or Iron Man. From what I’m hearing, the show is going to focus on Simon Williams’ transformation, and it sounds like we’re going to see him emerge as one of Earth’s newest protectors. It’s a pretty big deal, honestly!
Although he could end up joining Sam Wilson’s new Avengers team, there are already many new heroes to consider. Given Wonder Man’s connection to Doorman, and the number of other heroes based in Los Angeles, it’s more likely we’ll see a team similar to the old West Coast Avengers, perhaps under a different name.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be following a pattern similar to the Infinity War/Endgame storyline: a large group of heroes will confront Doctor Doom, but ultimately fail, leading to an even greater danger in a future film. If this is true, then having as many superhero teams as possible would be beneficial, and it’s probable that Wonder Man’s West Coast Avengers will be among those preparing to fight Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
Wonder Man starts January 27 on Disney+, with Avengers: Doomsday coming December 17, 2026.
