‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 5: Everything We Know

Mayor of Kingstown continues to be a gripping drama within the world created by Taylor Sheridan, and Season 4 is just as strong as ever. This season feels fresh and introduces compelling new characters, such as Nina Hobbs (Edie Falco) and Frank Moses (Lennie James), while still maintaining the elements that make the show so effective. From the very first episode, the intense suspense that viewers expect is present, and it hasn’t let up. With powerful performances and a dark, fascinating setting, this revitalized storyline leaves fans eager for Season 5.

As Season 4 comes to a close, the possibilities for Season 5 of Mayor of Kingstown are endless. Creator Taylor Sheridan seems to have a clear plan for how the series will end, and Season 4 felt like a strong move towards that conclusion. Here’s a look at everything we know about what’s coming next.

Star Jeremy Renner Confirms There Will Be a Fifth Season

Paramount

Official announcements about Season 5 are scarce. However, Jeremy Renner, who plays Mike McLusky, mentioned while at Florida Supercon in July that he had filmed what he called “the second season since the incident.” Here’s what he shared with the audience during his panel discussion:

I recently completed the second season, and we’ve wrapped up production since the recent issues. I’m planning to do two more seasons to bring the show to a satisfying conclusion. We’ve developed a great ending, which I won’t reveal, but I think it will be a really good way to finish the series.

If he agrees to continue for two more seasons, Mayor of Kingstown will run for a total of five seasons, which is shorter than Taylor Sheridan’s initial plan of seven. However, Sheridan has a lot of creative control at Paramount, so a five-season run would likely provide a satisfying ending.

Major Players Will Return in Mayor of Kingstown Season 5

Jeremy Renner is expected to return as the mayor in Season 5, and Tobi Bamtefa will likely reprise his popular role as Deverin “Bunny” Washington. Bamtefa’s character is a fan favorite and may be protected from major plot developments. Hugh Dillon, a co-creator and writer for the show, will probably be back as the ambiguous detective Ian Ferguson. Taylor Handley, playing Kyle McLusky, and Derek Webster as Stevie are also highly likely to appear in the next season.

It’s impossible to predict what will happen in the final two episodes of Season 4. This season has shown us that anything can happen, and no character is safe. The show constantly surprises viewers and raises the tension, as even seemingly secure characters like Bunny end up in danger – in this case, hospitalized after Frank’s attempt to take over.

For Season 5, expect the same creative team behind the scenes. Taylor Sheridan, Jon Dillon, and Jeremy Renner will continue as executive producers, and writers Christian Donovan and James Arcega Tinsley are likely to return. Directors Christoph Schrewe and Guy Ferland, who directed several popular episodes in Season 4, may also be back to direct.

What ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 5’s Plot Will Be

Season 4 of the show has been brutal, with major characters facing life-or-death situations. Survival in Kingstown is a constant struggle, and sadly, some beloved characters won’t be returning for Season 5. The shocking death of Carney in episode two signaled a relentlessly intense and violent season, and the show continues at that pace.

Episode eight brings a devastating turn of events with the death of a significant character. Merle Callahan, the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood, breaks out of Anchor Bay and immediately goes after Kyle’s wife, Tracy McLusky, and their baby son. He violently murders Tracy but surprisingly spares their child, Mitch. This shocking decision is sure to have major consequences in Season 5.

Frank Moses is easily Bunny’s greatest adversary. He’s an old-school Detroit gangster with connections that span countries. He breezes into Kingstown in the wake of Milo and Konstantin’s deaths with audacious plans andthe power to see them through. He won’t be easy to dispose of, although Bunny has Mike on his side (and you don’t mess with the mayor). Frank would make for an entertaining antagonist for Bunny in Season 5, to be sure.

Warden Hobbs is currently helping Mike, but their uneasy partnership likely won’t last forever. Hobbs isn’t exactly innocent herself, and she might eventually get annoyed with Mike being in her prison. The interactions between Renner and Falco are highly entertaining, especially when they disagree. Despite everything, Callahan could still be around for Season 4. He has a complicated past with Mike, and his recent actions – causing Kyle to murder his wife – could lead to the McLusky brothers joining forces to stop him.

Okay, so I’m already thinking about Season 5, and there’s one character I really want to see more of: Robert Sawyer, the SWAT leader. That attempt on his life in episode seven – staged as a suicide, no less – felt way too clean. As any seasoned TV viewer knows, if we don’t see a body, the character isn’t really gone! I fully expect Sawyer to come back, and when he does, he’s going to be seriously angry. Honestly, seeing him fully embrace the villain role feels like a natural progression, and I’m here for it. He’s got a score to settle with both Mike and Ian, and it’s going to be explosive.

Mike spends so much time inMayor of Kingstown reacting to everything around him. He seldom has the upper hand in, well, anything. There’s an underlying theme of family in Season 4 that could carry over into Season 5. Mike’s brother is in constant peril while behind bars, and his sister-in-law is now dead. He lost his older brother and mother to the dangers of Kingstown, too. Season 5 could see Mike having to make a pivotal choice between his family and the company town he tries to keep afloat.

Kyle is facing a similar struggle to Mike while incarcerated, and Mike is worried he’ll end up on the same dangerous path. With Callahan missing and potentially not returning to Anchor Bay, Kyle might be drawn to the AB gang for protection. The show could be positioning Kyle to eventually take over as mayor, or to become a close partner to Mike, helping him with his responsibilities if Mike is ever released.
