Fans were excited when horror star Matthew Lillard joined the cast of *Daredevil: Born Again* Season 2, and many wondered if he’d be a hero or villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, Marvel TV executive Brad Winderbaum has shared some details about Lillard’s character. It sounds like he’ll be a new rival to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin), challenging him politically and working against his corrupt power in New York City.
At New York Comic Con 2025, Marvel’s Kevin Winderbaum told *Entertainment Weekly* that Jack Quaid will play a character named Mr. Charles. He described Mr. Charles as a powerful new adversary for Wilson Fisk, especially now that Fisk is the newly elected mayor of New York City. As one of his first actions as mayor, Fisk has implemented martial law and created a task force to crack down on vigilantes as part of his plan for safer streets. However, Winderbaum suggests that Mr. Charles will present a unique challenge to Fisk and could disrupt his agenda.
The actor plays a character called Mr. Charles, and the story revolves around the theme of power. When Wilson Fisk gains control of New York, becoming a major figure on the world stage, Mr. Charles represents that level of influence. He’s a new villain, and in many ways, as powerful as Fisk himself. It’s interesting to see him navigate these high-stakes political and diplomatic situations. He’s caught between dealing with Mr. Charles and Daredevil, both for different purposes, which puts him under pressure.
Matthew Lillard Has Mastered the Art of Playing the Villain
Universal Pictures
I’ve been a fan of Matthew Lillard for years, and I think he’s truly amazing. While he’s played all sorts of characters, he really shines as a villain! He first blew me away as Stu Macher in the original *Scream* – that role instantly made him a horror icon. And guess what? He’s coming back as Ghostface in *Scream 7*! It’s been 30 years since the first movie, and he’s both thrilled and a little nervous to revisit the part, which is totally understandable. It’s awesome to see him return to a role he’s so well known for, especially with all the experience he’s gained since then.
You know, I’ve been following this actor for a while, and it’s cool to see how his villainous roles have gotten more complex over time. But he really jumped back into the spotlight when he played William Afton in *Five Nights at Freddy’s* – seriously, a creepy performance! And guess what? He’s coming back for *Five Nights at Freddy’s 2* this December, which I’m already excited about. But that’s not all – he’s also joining the second season of the Prime Video series *Cross* as a new villain named Lance. Apparently, this guy is going to be a major problem for Detective Alex Cross, so it’s going to be interesting to see him go up against another strong character on screen, not just Fisk like some of his other roles.
Season two of *Daredevil: Born Again* will arrive on Disney+ in March 2026 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6. The new episodes will continue the story from the previous season, with Charlie Cox returning as Matt Murdock and gathering a team of heroes. The show is planned to draw more heavily from the original *Daredevil* series on Netflix, continuing existing storylines and bringing back popular characters. Alongside new cast member Lillard, Lili Taylor will also appear, reportedly as a political opponent of Fisk, potentially putting her in contact with Mr. Charles.
