Be warned, this article reveals significant spoilers for episode 5 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2! Following the cliffhanger ending of the previous episode, Matt Murdock faces his toughest battle yet. Episode 4 ended with a shocking scene: Vanessa Fisk was critically injured with a piece of glass in her head after Bullseye attacked immediately following Mayor Fisk’s boxing match.
Episode 5 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is full of tension. Vanessa is in critical condition in the hospital, and Fisk is anxiously waiting for news. At the same time, Daredevil is pursuing Bullseye, and the loyalties of Fisk’s associates are strained. This action-packed episode significantly raises the stakes as the season heads towards its conclusion.
Daredevil Wrestles To Save Bullseye From Himself
Benjamin Poindexter, after getting revenge on Vanessa, now seems determined to destroy himself. Matt Murdock tries to help him regain control, but Bullseye is resistant and hints at wanting to avenge Foggy’s death.
Hearing his friend’s name fills Daredevil with anger, but he quickly regains control. As he remembers his lost friend, he has the chance to let Bullseye be arrested by a special task force. Instead, he chooses to show mercy, risking his own safety to save the life of the man who once tried to kill him.
How Foggy Nelson Returns In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Although Foggy Nelson is established as deceased following season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, actor Elden Henson reprised the role for flashback scenes in this episode. These flashbacks show Matt and Foggy early in their legal careers, specifically focusing on a case connected to Foggy’s childhood bully.
The flashbacks reveal that Foggy’s forgiving nature deeply influences Matt, ultimately leading him to spare Bullseye’s life. They also connect two seemingly separate events: Buck being hired to harm Foggy’s former tormentor, and Vanessa defying her boss to display a famous white painting that would later become a treasured piece in Wilson Fisk’s collection.
Does Daniel Know That BB Ulrich Is Leaking Information?
Everyone already knows BB Ulrich is the voice behind the ‘City Without Fear’ broadcasts, disguising herself with a Mayor Kingpin mask. Daniel, however, hasn’t realized his friend was responsible – until now. Once he’s presented with the evidence, he can no longer ignore the truth and finally understands that BB is the one sharing confidential information.
We see this when BB goes to the hospital to visit Daniel, who is caring for Vanessa after she was hurt. BB quickly tries to find out how the Mayor’s wife is doing, but Daniel is hesitant at first. BB doesn’t stay hesitant for long, though, and soon gets Daniel to open up and share what he knows.
Soon after these events, Daniel watches a news report about Vanessa’s serious condition. This confirms his suspicion that BB is the one secretly providing information. Despite realizing this, Daniel seems hesitant to take action.
Why Buck Takes Daniel On A Road Trip
Daniel wasn’t used to dangerous situations, but in this episode, Buck Cashman decides to see where Daniel’s true loyalties lie. Having previously captured the witness to the Northern Star ship incident, Buck drives Daniel to a remote, wooded area. Daniel is terrified, convinced that Buck intends to kill him for potentially revealing secrets from the Mayor’s close advisors.
When Buck stops the car and asks Daniel to help, Daniel discovers what their mission is really about. Though we don’t see Daniel actually help hide the body, it’s clear this moment changes him. He now faces a choice: fully commit to Fisk’s dangerous plan, even if it means covering up a murder to prove his loyalty, or become another victim himself, ending up like the crew member they just disposed of.
Now that Daniel knows BB is the source of the leaks and has been put in a difficult position by Buck, he’s at a turning point. This moment will likely define his character and reveal his true values. Sadly, even if Daniel does what Buck and Fisk want, it’s only the first step – they’ll keep asking for increasingly difficult favors he’ll be forced to accept.
Now That Vanessa Is Dead, What Will Happen To Wison Fisk?
Doctors did everything they could, but Vanessa’s health worsened, and she died by the end of episode 5 of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Though she found some comfort revisiting cherished memories, her death leaves Fisk without the one person who kept his anger in check.
The original Daredevil series portrayed Fisk as a physically imposing and easily angered man who often resorted to brutal violence, typically using his hands. This pattern continued in his initial appearances within the MCU, as seen in shows like Echo and Hawkeye, where he frequently displayed intense rage and aggression. More recently, after reconnecting with his wife, Fisk seems to have gained control of his temper and now favors a more calculated approach.
With Vanessa gone and the AVTF weakened, Mayor Fisk will probably become even more determined to eliminate all vigilantes in New York, and he’s likely to react strongly to anyone who opposes him. Vanessa’s death will significantly impact Fisk’s actions and set the stage for the main conflict throughout the rest of the season.
I’m really excited to see how this development makes Kingpin an even tougher opponent for Daredevil! It’s fascinating to me that it also exposes a weakness – it seems like his feelings are going to be calling the shots now, instead of logic. The last three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 are going to be incredible, I just know it – things are definitely heating up!
