In 2026, Amazon will release a new Masters of the Universe movie, bringing the story back to the big screen with a live-action film for the first time since 1987. The movie stars Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto, and Morena Baccarin, and follows Adam Glenn, the prince of Eternia, as he returns to his home planet as an adult to reclaim his destiny and become He-Man. Despite the anticipation for the film, a well-known figure connected to the franchise is currently facing difficulties.
Marlene Sweet, wife of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe creator Roger Sweet, shared on GoFundMe that Roger has been diagnosed with dementia. His condition has worsened over the past few years, and he now requires full-time care in a facility. Marlene became concerned when she noticed unexplained bruising and, after questioning Roger, realized he didn’t remember any falls or injuries and seemed confused. A trip to the emergency room revealed two brain bleeds, and he was admitted to the ICU.
It’s been so tough watching Roger’s health decline, and eventually, we had to move him into a full-time care facility. It’s incredibly expensive – around $10,200 a month! To help cover the costs of his care, I reluctantly started a GoFundMe. It’s hard asking for help, but I want to make sure he gets the best possible care.
MovieWeb also contacted Marlene for a statement. She asked that fans know how much their support means and expressed how wonderful it is that so many people care about Roger and his work on Masters of the Universe. She also shared her thoughts on the challenges with healthcare in the United States.
As a huge fan myself, I want everyone to know how much Roger and his team appreciate all the support. It’s just amazing to see so many people connect with his work and care about him as a person. Honestly, a lot of us didn’t realize how expensive memory care is, or that Medicare doesn’t usually cover it – hopefully, that’ll change in the future. A massive thank you from all of us, and please pass on our gratitude to the fans – it means the world!
