I recently got a glimpse of an intriguing reveal by Marvel Studios: a notorious villain from Phase 5, previously thought to have perished, is back in action! Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, characters have mysteriously returned from the dead, reappearing after apparently leaving this world and making significant impacts on the franchise’s future. This has been the case for Bucky Barnes, Vision, and rumors suggest it might be Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch.
Despite initial beliefs, fans were given a sneak peek at what appeared to be a resurrected Marvel character, Agatha Harkness, from the behind-the-scenes previews of the Agatha All Along series during Phase 5. Although Kathryn Hahn’s villainous character, Agatha, was supposedly killed and turned into a ghost at the end of her enchanting streaming show, it appears that her journey within the franchise is not yet over.
A recent backstage snapshot shared on the set of “Agatha All Along” shows a revived portrayal of Hahn’s Agatha character.
On Daniel Selon’s costume design website for Agatha, an image was shared that offered a glimpse of how Ghost Agatha appeared on set prior to the addition of her spectral special effects.
In the taken images, she dons a lavish purple gown and flaunts radiant white locks that her fans have rarely observed without being veiled by a digital, ghostly hue.
The accompanying artwork featured an impressive depiction of Hahn’s Ghost Agatha character, where bolts of lightning erupted from her hands, and swirls of purplish magical energy amassed behind her.
As a dedicated moviegoer, I must say that the climactic moment in “Agatha All Along” left an indelible mark on me. Agatha, the character we’ve grown to love and empathize with, made a selfless decision to halt Rio Vidal/Death’s malevolent plans in the series finale. By the end of the rollercoaster ride that was the credits, she had transitioned into a ghostly presence, a testament to her ultimate sacrifice.
Now, due to these fresh images, fans can finally see with clarity how the revamped version of the character would have appeared, if she hadn’t been a ghost.
In the period from September to October 2024, the show titled “Agatha All Along” premiered on Disney+. This series revolved around the character of Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn, who was initially presented as a villain in “WandaVision“. The story unfolded as Agatha formed a coven to confront the enigmatic Witches’ Road. A talented ensemble of characters and actors graced the series, with Joe Locke playing Teen/Wiccan, Debra Jo Rupp portraying Sharon Davis, Aubrey Plaza embodying Death/Rio Vidal, and Sasheer Zamata acting as Jennifer “Jen” Kale.
Will Agatha Ever Come Back to Life in the MCU?
As a devout movie enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder over the fate of Agatha Harkness following her apparent demise within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With so many unanswered questions swirling around about her possible return to life or even a cameo in future installments, my mind is filled with speculation.
It can be inferred from the conclusion of “Agatha All Along” that wherever Joe Locke’s Wiccan appears next, Agatha will likely follow suit. At the end of her Disney+ series, the powerful sorceress Agatha bound her destiny to Locke’s teenage character as he embarked on a quest to locate his long-lost brother, Tommy Maximoff.
The latest whispers hint that the anticipated “Young Avengers” production could feature our character alongside his screen-brother, along with notable actors such as Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Hailee Steinfeld portraying Kate Bishop.
Rumor has it that the Young Avengers project may involve the teenage squad attempting to resurrect Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch character. It’s possible that Agatha could be part of this too, returning from the dead at the same time as her witchy foe with whom she often clashed in her magical battles.
