Marvel Studios Reportedly Developing Deadpool & X-Men Movie For MCU Mutant Saga

Ryan Reynolds, famous for playing Deadpool, is said to be involved in creating a new film that will bring Deadpool together with the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s planned Mutant Saga. Reynolds recently achieved a major success with Deadpool & Wolverine, which earned over $1 billion worldwide and received excellent reviews in 2024. It seems the future is looking good for this R-rated hero after the move from 20th Century Fox to Disney.

Rumors suggest Ryan Reynolds, known for playing Deadpool, is working on a movie that would bring together a team of mutants within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming storyline. Although the first official X-Men movie in the MCU isn’t predicted to come out for several years, it’s already one of the most eagerly awaited films following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. Reynolds is also likely to reprise his role as Wade Wilson and finally share the screen with other mutants in the MCU over the next few years.

Insider Daniel Richtman reports that Ryan Reynolds is allegedly creating a team-up movie featuring mutants for the next phase of films. Unfortunately, no further information was shared about the movie’s plot or cast.

Reynolds isn’t new to producing; he also worked as a writer and producer on 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. He held similar roles on 2018’s Deadpool 2, and was a producer for 2016’s Deadpool as well.

Currently, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) is beginning work on its first X-Men movie. It’s not anticipated to be released in theaters until Phase 7 at the earliest. Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is set to direct, and the screenplay is being crafted by Michael Lesslie, who also wrote The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

What Could Happen in Ryan Reynolds’ X-Men/Deadpool Movie?

Currently, Marvel fans know that the first X-Men movie in the MCU will feature a new, younger group of heroes, allowing for their development over many films within Marvel Studios. However, considering Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movie, the most likely candidates to be the central characters are a team he’s already introduced: the X-Force.

Typically guided and instructed by Cable, X-Force is a team primarily composed of mutant rebels who possess more unpredictable abilities than the core X-Men. The team traditionally features characters from a wide range of backgrounds, something that could bring an exciting new dimension to the future of the MCU.

The 2018 film Deadpool 2 featured an X-Force team with characters played by Terry Crews (Bedlam), Bill Skarsgard (Zeitgeist), Lewis Tan (Shatterstar), Brad Pitt (Vanisher), Rob Delaney (Peter), and Zazie Beetz (Domino). Unfortunately, most of this team died very quickly before Deadpool and Domino pursued Josh Brolin’s Cable.

This new movie could finally allow this team to truly stand out in the MCU, especially since they were largely defeated in Deadpool 2. It might also open the door for Wolverine to join the team, as reports suggest Marvel is interested in having Hugh Jackman reprise his role alongside Ryan Reynolds.

Right now, the X-Men won’t be fully part of the MCU for a couple of years (except for older versions of the characters appearing in the next two Avengers movies). As the first movie focused on mutants begins to develop further, fans will likely learn more about what Reynolds is planning next.
