Marvel Studios Officially Begins Working On First MCU Phase 7 Movie

I’m excitedly hopping on board the pre-production phase of our next major cinematic venture, confirmed by none other than the director himself – it’s none other than the highly anticipated movie for Phase 7. With Phase 7’s kickoff, we’re setting sail towards uncharted territories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At the moment, all eyes are fixed on the blockbusters of Phase 6: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Yet, even as we’re engrossed in these upcoming masterpieces, our sights are already set on the horizon, especially with a production of this magnitude that will spearhead Phase 7.

Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts, has shared that he, along with Marvel Studios, is currently developing the upcoming X-Men movie – a project marking the commencement of Phase 7 for Marvel Studios.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Schreier only affirmed that preparations for the new X-Men movie were underway without disclosing specifics. His remarks seem to suggest that the project is currently in its early stages, with scriptwriting being undertaken. Although Schreier isn’t credited as a writer for Thunderbolts and Michael Lesslie will be writing X-Men, Schreier is expected to play an active role in both the scripting and pre-production phases of the film.

I’m not at liberty to discuss it, but we’ve indeed begun working on a project titled ‘X-Men‘ – needless to say, this is tremendously thrilling news!

Schreier hinted that the X-Men film would strike a balance between high-action sequences and poignant emotional moments, much like Thunderbolts*. He emphasized that his time working on Thunderbolts* was enlightening, revealing aspects of directing he hadn’t previously been aware of.

I discovered a lot about various aspects after delving into ‘Thunderbolts’. The most challenging part for me was balancing the action sequences with those focused on characters’ emotions. Despite having more shooting days than ever before, I found that the action scenes consumed them quickly. By the end of it all, it felt like we had a better grasp of how to handle these dynamic sequences.

As a die-hard X-Men fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment of our beloved series, though as of now, no official release date has been set in stone – rumors point to either 2028 or perhaps 2029. At this moment, we haven’t heard any news about who will grace the silver screen as our favorite mutants, but given the increasing buzz surrounding the project, it won’t be long before casting decisions are made, possibly within the next year. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development!

What Will Join X-Men in Phase 7?

It’s clear that among the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 7 offerings, X-Men is expected to be the most highly anticipated film and potentially the biggest box office success. Following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Secret Wars, the X-Men franchise will embark on a new chapter called the Mutant Saga, which fans have been eagerly awaiting.

Starting from Phase 7, it’s anticipated that the Mutant Saga will unfold, possibly implying the release of other Mutant-centric projects during this period. Yet, there are also plans for non-Mutant projects to premiere in cinemas as early as 2028 and beyond.

Black Panther 3 is expected to be part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 7, with it being considered one of the two key films for this phase. Other potential additions to Phase 7 could include Doctor Strange 3, a sequel to Shang-Chi, and possibly a follow-up to Fantastic Four: First Steps.
