Marvel Studios Finally Unleashes Another Great Female TV Villain

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is highlighting a compelling female villain on Disney+. The series, starring Charlie Cox, is going all out in its battle for New York City, and Vanessa Fisk plays a key role in the ongoing conflict between Mayor Fisk and Daredevil. Building on her transformation in Season 1, Vanessa’s influence feels even more important as Mayor Fisk continues to control New York with fear.

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again has established Vanessa Fisk as a formidable villain. The recent episodes on Disney+ show her playing a much larger role, managing Wilson Fisk’s criminal operations from the shadows and controlling other criminals. She fully embraced villainy after her actions led to the death of Foggy Nelson.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Vanessa showed her loyalty to Wilson Fisk, despite having an affair with Adam while Fisk was away. She proved this loyalty by killing Adam, ultimately solidifying their bond.

In the second episode of Daredevil: Born Again, Vanessa shows increasing concern about Bullseye being released, revealing a hidden vulnerability despite her normally composed attitude as she becomes more involved in Mayor Fisk’s attempts to stay in power against rising opposition.

I was really struck by a scene in Season 2, Episode 2. It featured a heated meeting with Governor McCaffrey, and it really showed how much Vanessa Fisk is becoming a key player. While the Governor was passionately arguing about who controlled New York and how much power Fisk really had, Vanessa stayed completely calm and collected – she didn’t flinch once. It was a powerful moment that made me realize she’s not just a bystander anymore.

Vanessa is determined to stay in control, and will do anything to achieve that, despite constantly fearing that Dex, a highly dangerous assassin, is trying to eliminate her.

In Season 2, Episode 2, she became even more threatening after acquiring a gun. She described this as something she truly wanted, not something she needed, demonstrating her capacity for cruelty and highlighting how unpredictable she can be.

Every Notable Female Villain on Disney+

Najma

Ms. Marvel revealed Najma as one of the main big bads in the Iman Vellani-led series.

Najma was the leader of the Clandestines, a group of Djinn who were exiled from another dimension called Noor. In the Disney+ series, she wanted to obtain Kamala Khan’s magical bangle, which gives the wearer special powers.

At first, Najma seemed like someone who was trying to protect people. But she later became cruel, using harsh and violent methods to capture Kamala and bring her into her group.

Ammit

In the Marvel story Moon Knight, Ammit is an ancient Egyptian god who acts as the main enemy of Khonshu. She’s often called the Devourer of the Dead.

Ammit believes in a perfect world, but her idea of justice is flawed – she punishes people for crimes they might commit. In the final episode of Moon Knight, she was unleashed by her follower, Arthur Harrow, which led to a massive battle between her and the god Khonshu.

Ammit was finally stopped when Steven Grant and Layla El-Faouly trapped her within Harrow’s body using a special ritual. Ultimately, Jake Lockley killed Harrow on Khonshu’s command, which destroyed Ammit.

Karli Morgenthau

In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we meet Karli Morgenthau, the leader of the Flag-Smashers. This group believes in bringing back the world without borders that briefly existed after the Blip.

Karli’s aggressive actions against the government, including bombings and attacks, led many to view her as a terrorist, though she believed she was fighting for a just cause. However, these actions resulted in the deaths of innocent people, making her a threat that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are now tasked with stopping.

Eleanor Bishop

Vera Farmiga plays Eleanor Bishop, a character similar to Vanessa Fisk, who acts as a supporting villain in Hawkeye and reluctantly teams up with Wilson Fisk.

Her connection to Kate Bishop – being her mother – is what makes her such a difficult and captivating villain. It creates a personal conflict that makes defeating her particularly challenging.

Eleanor acted as a villain because she prioritized her own survival and desired power. She was often ruthless and strategic, but she wasn’t beyond saving, especially after Kingpin, Fisk, exploited her and forced her to work for him.

Miss Minutes

Despite appearing as a playful, cartoon character and serving as the face of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), Miss Minutes’ true allegiance was shown in the Loki Season 1 finale, where it was revealed she was completely loyal to He Who Remains.

Loki eventually discovered that Miss Minutes wasn’t a helpful assistant, but a scheming and cruel character dedicated to fulfilling the TVA’s plans, no matter the cost.

Ravonna Renslayer

At first, Ravonna Renslayer seemed like a powerful and reliable judge working alongside Mobius. But as the story of Loki unfolded, her desire to protect the Sacred Timeline and her own hidden goals revealed her to be a villain. She also kept secrets about where the TVA came from, making it hard to trust her.

Ravonna began as someone who tried to do good through rules and regulations, but she evolved into a direct, personal danger. She embodies the risks of absolute power and shows how unwavering loyalty, without limits, can turn even well-intentioned people into villains.

Echo

Maya Lopez, also known as Echo, first appeared in Hawkeye as a villain driven by loyalty to Wilson Fisk and a desire for revenge against Ronin for the death of her father. She was a key leader within the Tracksuit Mafia, overseeing their dangerous activities and criminal undertakings.

Though initially driven by revenge and quite formidable, Echo ultimately became more of a complex, heroic figure after separating from Wilson Fisk. This development eventually led to her getting her own show on Disney+.

Val

Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, known as Val, first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier where she recruited John Walker to join a secret team for her organization, O.X.E. We learn more about O.X.E. in Thunderbolts.

Val, a secretive and cunning government agent, continues to be a powerful force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film Thunderbolts reveals the scope of her villainous schemes and confirms she’s been secretly controlling events from the shadows.

Agatha Harkness

Agatha Harkness is a particularly memorable villain on Disney+, playing a significant role in the series WandaVision alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff. She’s a powerful witch who gained her power by killing members of her own coven, and her history is further explored in the spinoff series, Agatha All Along.

Some people might see Agatha as an anti-hero after what happened in Agatha All Along, but she’s still driven by a desire for power and isn’t afraid to manipulate others. This makes her a fascinating character, regardless of whether you’re rooting for her or against her.
