Marvel Studios has revealed the twelve groups of heroes who will battle Victor Von Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Fans haven’t seen a major Avengers team-up throughout the current series of films, but that’s about to change. The movie, hitting theaters on December 18th, will finally show all the different alliances and teams.
Robert Downey Jr. shared a special piece of artwork featuring Doctor Doom from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie on Instagram, just in time for Easter. The image is full of symbolism and fits the holiday spirit.
The artwork shows the famous villain standing over an Easter basket. Inside are eggs decorated with symbols representing different heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it seems these eggs might have a hidden significance beyond just being a festive decoration.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited by the possibilities this image shows! It looks like we might see several different teams forming to fight Doom in the movie. Some of these heroes and groups will probably team up with each other, and it could all build towards one epic, massive battle. Right now, it’s just a glimpse of how they might divide things up, but it’s incredibly cool to see!
The update also featured a few unexpected additions, including a Spider-Man-themed item that quickly sparked online debate about which version of the character it represented.
Although we already knew many of these characters would appear, this recent reveal gives us a better idea of how their stories will connect and diverge.
The Teams of Avengers: Doomsday
The Fantastic Four

Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are key players in this conflict, and it hits especially close to home for them.
The team will mysteriously find themselves transported to Earth-616, and Doctor Doom’s interest in them isn’t just based on personal animosity – it seems to involve Franklin Richards.
By the time the ‘Doomsday’ event truly begins, Doctor Doom might already have captured Franklin Richards, which would dramatically increase the tension and emotional impact of the story. The latest preview suggests that the Fantastic Four and Wakanda will quickly team up to face the threat.
The X-Men

The X-Men’s involvement is the biggest unknown factor, as it’s still unclear what role mutants will play in the upcoming Doomsday event.
Okay, so after seeing this latest team-up, I’m pretty confident we’re looking at the same universe teased at the end of The Marvels. Remember that quick digital appearance by Kelsey Grammer as Beast? Yeah, this feels connected to that, and it opens up a lot of possibilities for where they might take things next.
It’s unclear how the X-Men will become involved in the conflict with Doctor Doom, but their incredible powers – especially depending on which mutants appear – could make them a major threat. After years of anticipation, it looks like the X-Men are finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant way.
Spider-Man

The Spider-Man egg caused a huge reaction online, and rightfully so. The symbol itself doesn’t reveal which version of Spider-Man will be appearing.
The most likely scenario involves Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker. This could be hinted at in a scene after the credits of a previous movie, potentially connecting to the events of Doomsday. However, it’s still unclear what would cause him to become involved in such a large, universe-spanning conflict.
The egg’s design has led fans to wonder if Tobey Maguire might reprise his role as Peter Parker, a rumor that’s been circulating for a while.
Captain America (Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson)

Both Chris Evans, as Steve Rogers, and Anthony Mackie, as Sam Wilson, will continue to play Captain America in the upcoming film, Doomsday.
The interesting thing about Steve’s return is he might not be playing Captain America again. He could just be appearing as himself, Steve Rogers.
Sam Wilson, much like Captain America, is now the clear leader, and he’s preparing to guide a new team of Avengers into battle. It’s almost certain Joaquin Torres, as Falcon, will be part of this team, and they’ll likely add other heroes as well.
Loki

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki appearing in Avengers: Doomsday is particularly puzzling, mainly because of how his story ended last time we saw him.
Honestly, the ending of Loki completely blew me away. He made this huge sacrifice to save everything – the entire multiverse! He essentially became this foundational force, holding all of reality together by taking his place at the very end of time and space. It’s like he became the bedrock of existence itself, which is a pretty epic fate, even for a god of mischief.
He’d only come back into the conflict if something truly terrible happened to make him leave his current position, potentially even leading to another season of Loki.
Thor

Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming film Doomsday, and this time, his mission is deeply personal. He’s determined to rescue Love, the daughter he adopted at the conclusion of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor is incredibly powerful and would be a huge help against Doom, but it looks like he might be working on his own for a lot of the upcoming movie.
Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, is still a bit of a mystery within the larger puzzle of the potential ‘Doomsday’ storyline. However, it seems likely he’ll join Sam Wilson’s new Avengers team, as hinted at in the after-credits scene of his own movie.
It also makes sense that Ant-Man could be involved, especially since he might team up with Captain America’s new group. Shang-Chi’s history with the Ten Rings – and their potentially magical and unknown beginnings – could be important too, if the movie explores the deeper story introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Black Panther

The Black Panther’s legacy isn’t just about one person; it embodies the strength of Wakanda, and Shuri is expected to be a key figure in the upcoming film. Joining her is M’Baku, now the king of Wakanda, who will also be involved in the battle.
The movie begins by bringing together characters from different universes, starting with a team-up featuring The Fantastic Four, which immediately establishes the idea of a vast Marvel multiverse.
Namor

Tenoch Huerta will reprise his role as Namor in Avengers: Doomsday, and he’ll be joined by Mabel Cadena as Namora. This suggests that the underwater nation of Talokan is preparing to fully participate in the conflict, rather than just sending Namor as their representative.
Partnering with Wakanda seems like the most logical next step, since Wakanda Forever already established a complicated but workable connection between our countries.
Ant-Man

It looks like Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, will be tackling this adventure on his own. There’s no sign that Evangeline Lilly’s character, Wasp, will be joining him to battle Doom.
Ant-Man will probably join Sam Wilson’s new Avengers team. His powers – changing size and knowledge of the Quantum Realm – should create some exciting scenes.
Doctor Strange

Although the studio hasn’t officially said so, it would be hard to believe Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) won’t be involved, given how important he is to the story.
The movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness concludes with Strange and Clea (played by Charlize Theron) traveling through a portal into the wider Multiverse. They embark on a mission to fix dangerous tears in reality that threaten to destroy everything.
It’s highly likely that invasions will be a key element of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, putting Doctor Strange right at the center of the action.
The New Avengers*

The team formerly known as the Thunderbolts – now operating as The New Avengers – is returning, and Marvel has offered a sneak peek at their upcoming adventures.
The after-credits sequence in Thunderbolts was actually filmed by the Russo Brothers, and it seems to directly set up the events of the upcoming Doomsday film – it could even end up being a scene from that movie.
Based on recent events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, and the new hero Sentry, along with their team, could soon team up with the Fantastic Four and the people of Wakanda.
