In comparison to other MCU films, Armor Wars has been one of the most enigmatic, with little progress made in bringing it to theaters over the past few years. Nevertheless, while the information available is scant, fans have a rough idea of who might be featured in the film.

It appears that four significant characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are rumored to have key roles in Marvel Studios‘ “Armor Wars.” This Iron Man-focused tale was originally intended to explore a darker aspect of the iconic hero’s enduring legacy, particularly concerning his technology. With Tony Stark’s emotional sacrifice in “Avengers: Endgame,” it seems those closest to him are poised to carry on this narrative.

Initially planned for creation towards the end of 2020, Armor Wars was slated as the inaugural Iron Man-related project within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga. The central narrative would have explored the consequences if Tony Stark’s tech ended up in harmful hands, casting a shadow over the legacy of the MCU’s initial superhero.

Every Major MCU Character Reported for Armor Wars

James Rhodes/War Machine

The upcoming film, “Armor Wars”, has long been hinted as the debut solo project for Don Cheadle’s character Colonel James Rhodes (War Machine). This would represent Cheadle’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since “Avengers: Endgame”. Additionally, it would be his third credit in the Multiverse Saga (following “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “Secret Invasion”), marking the first time he takes the leading role in an MCU project.

The movie we’re discussing is expected to portray Rhodey grappling with the aftermath of Iron Man’s armor and tech being misused. Although specifics about the storyline remain unclear, it’s also anticipated that the film will tackle the ramifications of Rhodey’s imprisonment and the Skrull impersonation incident from Secret Invasion. This would mean Rhodey has to rebuild his life following years spent in captivity.

Riri Williams/Ironheart

Initially, Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams, famously known as Ironheart to MCU enthusiasts, was also planned to feature in Armor Wars. If this film had materialized, it would have marked Thorne’s third appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her first appearance was in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and she was set to reprise her role as Ironheart for her own solo series, Ironheart, due out in June 2025.

In the Armor Wars, although her exact role wasn’t disclosed, she was anticipated to serve as an apprentice or protégée to Don Cheadle’s character, James Rhodes. Given their shared knowledge about Iron Man technology, they were expected to collaborate in understanding the intentions behind the technology and devising strategies to thwart potential misuse. With Riri possessing exceptional skills in tech development, she was likely going to be a crucial ally for Rhodey in navigating the intricacies of the legacy MCU weaponry.

Pepper Potts/Rescue

As reported by The Cosmic Circus, it was once planned to have MCU mainstay Gwyneth Paltrow return as Pepper Potts in the film “Armor Wars.” Since her introduction in 2008’s “Iron Man,” Pepper has been a recurring character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and she played a significant role throughout the Infinity Saga. If “Armor Wars” had moved forward, it would have marked Pepper’s first appearance in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

Now, Pepper has taken over as the key personality at Stark Industries following Tony’s passing, and she even wore the Rescue armor in her final Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance (Avengers: Endgame)). In the upcoming series Armor Wars, Rhodey might suggest that Pepper put on her own superhero armor to join forces with him against the film’s antagonists.

Morgan Stark

In the same Cosmic Circus report discussing Pepper Potts’ appearance in Armor Wars, it was also revealed that Lexi Rabe, who portrayed Morgan Stark, would be making an appearance in the film. Although Rabe first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony and Pepper’s daughter in Avengers: Endgame, she has been eagerly awaiting her return since then.

In this film’s scenario, if Morgan was of an age to wear an Iron Man suit, it’s possible that the Stark children were prepared for such a role. However, the narrative probably would have focused on Rhodey and Pepper taking every measure to shield Morgan from potential harm instead.
