The Marvel Studios project has been in the works since it was first announced by Kevin Feige at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Originally, the movie – starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role – was planned to be released in November 2023.
A hint of the character first appeared at the end of the 2021 film *Eternals*, with only a voice being heard. Fans immediately speculated this meant a new *Blade* movie was coming, focusing on the Daywalker. However, a recently released character poster seems to have revealed a key weakness for Blade, even before the film’s release, according to ComicBook.com.
Marvel Studios has unveiled the first marketing materials for its upcoming series, *Marvel Zombies*, including a new character poster featuring a unique version of Blade. This Blade’s powers are boosted by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, creating a powerful combination. The poster highlights Blade’s incredible speed and agility as his greatest strength. However, it also suggests that his reliance on swords might be a weakness when facing enemies with strong armor, potentially limiting his effectiveness.
The Disney+ series *Marvel Zombies* has revealed that Blade isn’t effective against all enemies, and this idea might carry over to the live-action movies. This weakness could apply to the Blade we see in different timelines, including the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unlike his animated counterpart, this Blade wouldn’t have the power boosts from the Egyptian god Khonshu, putting him at a significant disadvantage. This limitation might also explain why Blade hasn’t been confirmed to appear in the upcoming multiverse storylines, as this version of the character wouldn’t be much help.
When Could Blade Show Up Again?
Fans are still waiting to find out when Blade will appear in a Marvel movie. While he recently had a brief appearance in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, there’s a chance he could show up in the upcoming *Avengers: Secret Wars*, according to ComicBook.com. Another possibility is seeing the version of Blade from *Marvel Zombies* brought to life in a live-action project sometime in the future.
I’m a big Marvel fan, and I’ve been following the updates on the new *Blade* movie with Mahershala Ali taking over from Wesley Snipes. It’s been stuck in development for ages! We were hoping to see it in 2025, but that’s not happening now. Apparently, Mahershala and Marvel are still trying to make it work, but it looks like we’ll be waiting a *long* time – probably well after *Secret Wars* comes out. Mahershala himself said in June he’s totally committed, which is great, but honestly, I’m not sure what’s going on over at Marvel right now. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Marvel has announced that *Secret Wars* will be released on December 17, 2027. The development of *Blade* has faced many challenges, including changes in directors and delays caused by the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes. After several postponements, Marvel has now cancelled the film altogether.
Marvel Zombies is streaming on Disney+.
