Marvel Debuts Trailer For ‘Punisher’ Disney+ Special

Welcome back, Frank.

Before appearing alongside Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will star in his own special on Disney+. Bernthal is also helping to write the special.

Marvel announced the upcoming special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, last month. They’ve now released the trailer, which shows both the intense action fans expect from The Punisher, and a lot of Frank Castle grappling with his past and inner demons.

You can watch the One Last Kill trailer below:

Marvel shared a new poster for the special, which was directed and co-written by Reinaldo Marcus Green, known for films like King Richard and Bob Marley: One Love.

Jon Bernthal first played the Punisher in season two of the Netflix series Daredevil. He then starred in his own Netflix show, The Punisher, for two seasons between 2017 and 2019. When Disney+ brought back Daredevil as Born Again, Bernthal returned as the Punisher in a guest role. Although he won’t be in season two of Born Again, he has two new projects on the way: One Last Kill and Brand New Day, which will be released one after the other.

Here is the special’s official synopsis:

In this episode, Frank looks for a purpose greater than simply getting revenge, but a surprising event drags him back into the conflict.

I really enjoy these standalone specials – they’re similar to those single-issue Marvel comics. (Like Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe – a really fun one!) Not every story needs to be a long movie or a full season of TV. Sometimes, a shorter, self-contained story is perfect.

The Punisher: One Last Kill premieres on Disney+ on May 12 at 9PM ET, 6PM PT.

ScreenCrush’s Most Anticipated Summer Movies of 2026

The Mandalorian and Grogu

The adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu are coming to theaters next summer! The movie will be created by many of the same people who made their popular Disney+ show, including director and writer Jon Favreau, co-writer and producer Dave Filoni, producer Kathleen Kennedy, and composer Ludwig Goransson. While the plot is still a secret, Sigourney Weaver will play a former Rebel, and Jeremy Allen White will star as Rotta, Jabba the Hutt’s son – though they don’t look much alike!

Backrooms

Set to release on May 29th, this new horror thriller from A24 has already generated significant buzz online, with the trailer racking up millions of views. It’s based on the popular original “Backrooms” short film, which has garnered a massive 75 million views on YouTube. Director Kane Parsons drew inspiration from internet memes about unsettling, seemingly infinite abandoned buildings. The film recreates the grainy, fluorescent-lit look of the original YouTube videos and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renata Reinsve in a story about a search for a missing person that leads them into a never-ending maze of empty stores.

Power Ballad

Premiering June 5th, Power Ballad is the latest film from director John Carney (known for Once and Sing Street). The movie centers around a struggling musician (Paul Rudd) who forms an unexpected bond with a former member of a popular boy band (Nick Jonas). The film received some of Carney’s best reviews in years after its debut at SXSW, with critics praising its familiar yet surprising take on the small, character-focused musicals he’s known for.

Masters of the Universe

The new live-action Masters of the Universe movie, releasing June 5th, definitely looks unusual—but honestly, the original toys and cartoon were pretty wild too! It had a bizarre mix of characters, from barbarians and robots to human tornadoes and evil skeletons. This new film seems surprisingly true to that original strangeness, which is encouraging. It’s directed by Travis Knight, known for his excellent animated films like Kubo and the Two Strings and the Bumblebee movie (also based on a toy line), so there’s reason to be hopeful.

Disclosure Day

Scheduled for release on June 12th, Steven Spielberg’s latest film, Disclosure Day, explores his enduring fascination with extraterrestrial life. Spielberg developed the initial concept before collaborating with Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. The film seems to be a follow-up to classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T., or perhaps a modern take on War of the Worlds suited for today’s world of misinformation. Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, and Colin Firth, we’ll discover the answer this June.

The Death of Robin Hood

With so many Robin Hood films already available, what sets this one apart? It’s the combination of Hugh Jackman as an older, reflective hero – a role he’s proven he excels at in Logan (available on Disney+) – and the unique vision of director Michael Sarnoski. Sarnoski, known for his sensitive and visually compelling work in films like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, brings a fresh perspective to the classic tale. While other Robin Hood movies exist, this one promises a distinct and intriguing interpretation from a talented filmmaker.

Toy Story 5

With computers, video games, and a flood of AI-generated content becoming so popular, it’s tough for traditional toys and movies to stand out. That’s what the new Toy Story sequel, directed by longtime Pixar contributor Andrew Stanton, aims to address. Hopefully, the return of Forky—who I believe is uniquely qualified to combat the rise of AI—will be a good sign!

Jackass 5

Some good news arrived on January 8th: Johnny Knoxville announced the Jackass crew is getting back together for another movie! The fifth installment, set to release on June 26th, will reportedly feature the entire cast of Jackass Forever, which is fantastic news for fans like me who can’t get enough of stars like Sean “Poopies” McInerney. It’s a welcome bit of fun amidst a lot of serious news.

Supergirl

Scheduled for release on June 26th, the new Supergirl movie stars Milly Alcock as the iconic character. Following her exciting appearance in Superman, fans will be eager to see her lead her own film. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, the movie is based on the critically acclaimed DC comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story follows Supergirl as she teams up with an alien girl seeking revenge for her father’s death, and if the film stays true to the source material, it has the potential to be a truly exceptional superhero movie.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s new film, releasing on July 17th, is his take on the classic story of The Odyssey. Featuring a stellar cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, and Robert Pattinson, it’s already generating buzz. This is also Nolan’s most ambitious and costly project yet, filmed entirely using IMAX 70mm cameras. If that doesn’t make you want to see it, nothing will!

Evil Dead Burn

The new horror film Evil Dead Burn is coming out on July 24th. While Sam Raimi also has a movie releasing in 2026 and there’s another Evil Dead film planned for that year, this one is different. Evil Dead Burn is directed by Sébastien Vaniček, a French filmmaker. Details are scarce, but we know Souheila Yacoub stars in the lead role. Even with different directors, the Evil Dead franchise has consistently delivered satisfying horror experiences.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Set to release on July 31st, 2026 could be a significant year for Marvel. The year kicks off with the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. New cast members Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman join returning favorites like Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal. While it’s unclear how this film, titled Brand New Day, fits into the larger Marvel multiverse, fans will be excited to see Tom Holland back as Peter Parker.

The End of Oak Street

Set to release on August 14th, this new mystery thriller is already generating buzz, with many calling its trailer one of the year’s best. Produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, the film centers on a family who discovers their quiet suburban neighborhood has somehow been transported to a world with dinosaurs. The director, David Robert Mitchell (known for the horror film It Follows), keeps the details deliberately vague, leaving audiences to wonder where the family is and how it happened – making for a truly captivating concept.

Coyote vs. Acme

Originally finished by Warner Bros. and then put on hold, the live-action/animated film Coyote vs. Acme is now getting a theatrical release thanks to a new distributor. Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch (based on a story by James Gunn and Jeremy Slater), the movie centers around Wile E. Coyote suing the Acme corporation for their faulty products. The film stars both classic Looney Tunes characters and live actors like Will Forte, John Cena, and Luis Guzmán. Despite a late August release – which isn’t usually a sign of a blockbuster – there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the film, and many are hoping Wile E. Coyote finally achieves victory!

72 Hours

Coming this summer to Netflix is a new comedy starring Kevin Hart, Teyana Taylor, and Zach Cherry. The movie centers around a 40-year-old man who mistakenly gets added to a bachelor party group chat and ends up joining the weekend’s festivities. It’s directed by Tim Story and written by the team behind the Harold & Kumar movies and Cobra Kai, so it’s likely to be a fun watch – I’d definitely give it 90 minutes of my time!
