The new video game, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, lets players choose from 15 Marvel heroes. Developed by Tribute Games, it’s a fast-paced, side-scrolling beat ’em up that feels like classic arcade games, but set in the Marvel universe.

In Marvel Cosmic Invasion, players control a roster of heroes, each with their own special moves and costumes. The game challenges you to defend Earth from waves of enemies sent by the villain Annihilus. Each round, you’ll choose between two heroes, so strategic character selection is key to success. Marvel Cosmic Invasion launched on December 1st and is available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Playable Heroes List

Captain America

Captain America is a hero players can use immediately. He has a special ability that improves team morale, speeding up the recharge of focus and increasing the damage done from assists. Players can also customize Captain America’s look with different outfits, including a red version that replaces his blue colors, and a black outfit based on the US Agent character.

Nova

In the game Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Nova – also known as Richard Ryder – is a key character that players are eager to see adapted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nova has a special ability called the Nova Force, which temporarily boosts the power of his Nova Beam attack.

Storm

Okay, so I’m really excited about this new game, Marvel Cosmic Invasion! They’ve got Storm as one of the starting characters, which is awesome. Her special ability, “Charged Up,” is really cool – if you dodge an attack or get hit with electricity, your next attack gets a shocking boost. As for how she looks, you can go with her classic white and gold outfit, but there are a bunch of other options too. They’ve got everything from gold and blue to black and silver, and even a throwback to the Jim Lee era designs, which is a nice touch for us older fans!

Wolverine

Marvel Games is currently highlighting Wolverine. In the game Marvel Cosmic Invasion, his powers are very similar to those in the comics, and a special ability lets him quickly recover health.

Wolverine typically wears a yellow and brown suit, but his look can be changed to reflect designs from the Jim Lee X-Men comics or his X-Force attire.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is another popular Marvel character featured in many games, and he’s a blast to play in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. His special ability, Spider-Sense, helps him recharge his web shooters whenever he successfully dodges an attack.

Spider-Man is known for having amazing costume designs. Besides his iconic red and blue suit, he’s sported black and red, blue and white with orange eyes, and outfits inspired by Iron Spider, Venom (Symbiote), the Negative Zone, and the Prowler.

Beta Ray Bill

Beta Ray Bill is a lesser-known Marvel hero who’s powerful enough to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. His special ability, Retaliation, adds a shocking blast to his attacks when he recalls the hammer after striking an opponent. Players can also customize Beta Ray Bill with various colors for his gauntlets and cape.

Black Panther

Although a standalone Black Panther video game was cancelled, the character will still appear in other Marvel games like Marvel Cosmic Invasion. In that game, Black Panther has a special ability called Sonic Counter: whenever he takes damage, his next attack gets a boost and deals extra sonic damage.

Black Panther has several different costume options, including recolors in blue, purple, green, black and gold, black and red, and white.

Cosmic Ghost Rider

Instead of the classic Ghost Rider, the game Marvel Cosmic Invasion features Cosmic Ghost Rider. His special ability, Penance, gives him 4 extra bullets whenever he defeats an enemy with a powerful attack. His ultimate move also includes his iconic motorcycle. Players can customize Cosmic Ghost Rider with several different color schemes, like purple, blue, red and green, grey and red, and black and white.

Iron Man

Players can also immediately unlock Iron Man, a long-time Avengers favorite. His special ability lets him gain unlimited ammo for a limited time by successfully deflecting enemy attacks. Iron Man features several costume choices, including updated versions of his iconic red and gold suit. You’ll also find options like the Superior Iron Man design and a comic-inspired gold and silver look.

Rocket Raccoon

As a big fan of the Guardians, I was excited to see Rocket Raccoon as one of the first characters available! His special ability, tied to the Tinkerer, means that taking down enemies in combos gives you a better chance of getting a powerful nuke grenade. And honestly, customizing Rocket is a blast – you can change his suit color, but the coolest part is altering his fur and face. There are even some really striking, almost villainous looks with glowing red eyes that I love to use!

She-Hulk

She-Hulk joins the Marvel Cosmic Invasion team with a powerful special move – a devastating ground smash – and a helpful ability that boosts her damage after launching an opponent. Players can customize her appearance with red, grey, or teal skin options.

Dark Phoenix

Okay, so the latest update to Marvel Cosmic Invasion adds Dark Phoenix, and she’s a powerhouse! Her special ability is, of course, the Phoenix Force – it basically means when her Focus bar fills, her attacks get this awesome fiery boost. Visually, she’s stunning; you can customize her with different color schemes, including a really classy white and gold, or a blue and gold option. And good news, she’s one of the heroes you unlock as you progress through the story, so you won’t have to grind to play as her!

Silver Surfer

Players can unlock Silver Surfer as the last character in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. He’s a very powerful hero with a special ability: he can deflect attacks to deal extra cosmic damage. When it comes to appearance, Silver Surfer’s costume is mostly limited to color changes – players can customize his look with shades of silver, metallic blue, green, gold, bronze, red, and onyx.

Phyla-Vell

Phyla-Vell is a Marvel Comics character who isn’t as well-known as some others. She’s the daughter of the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and has been updated and portrayed in various ways over the years. In the game Marvel Cosmic Invasion, her powers let her use a special move called Cosmic Counter to gain extra focus. Players can unlock Phyla-Vell in Marvel Cosmic Invasion by finishing the Hala mission.

Venom

After becoming a fan favorite in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Venom is a playable character in Marvel Cosmic Invasion, unlocked through story progression. His special ability, Lethal Protector, lets his support moves slow down opponents. Players can also customize Venom with a variety of outfits and colors, including options like blue, green, purple, white and black (as Anti-Venom), black and red, and a red look inspired by Carnage.
