Mark Wahlberg’s Ted Franchise Return Praised By Seth MacFarlane In New Update On Animated Series

Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role in the upcoming animated series, Ted: The Animated Series, marking his return after ten years, and Seth MacFarlane promises fans it will be worth seeing.

Mark Wahlberg played John Bennett in the first two Ted movies, a laid-back guy whose childhood dream of a living teddy bear came true, leading to a lasting friendship with Ted. After the second movie wasn’t as well-received as the first, the series took a break. It later returned with a new show focusing on John and Ted as teenagers.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Seth MacFarlane discussed the progress of the animated Ted series. He highlighted the excellent work of co-creators Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan, praising their ability to create something fresh while staying true to the original Ted world. MacFarlane noted they are managing production on a weekly basis.

He explained the new show will continue the story immediately after the 2015 sequel’s ending. Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth are all returning, and Liz Richman and Kyle Mooney are joining the cast – he described them as fantastic. MacFarlane specifically highlighted Wahlberg’s contribution to the series, noting that voice acting isn’t common for the Oscar-nominated actor, and hinted that this Ted continuation could potentially last for several seasons.

Seth MacFarlane believes the show has real potential and could run for many seasons. He notes it’s less demanding to produce than his animated series ‘Family Guy,’ which often felt like making a Marvel movie multiple times a season. He’s confident audiences will enjoy it, especially Mark Wahlberg’s performance. Wahlberg, new to voice acting for animation, quickly excelled and is instantly recognizable, perfectly capturing the essence of his film roles. MacFarlane anticipates viewers will respond positively.

As Seth MacFarlane noted, Ted: The Animated Series is only the second time Mark Wahlberg has ever done voice work in his almost 40-year career. Before this Peacock show, Wahlberg first lent his voice to a character in the 2022 film Scoob!, a reboot of the Scooby-Doo movies that was meant to start a larger Hanna-Barbera universe. In that film, he played Brian Crown, also known as the superhero Blue Falcon, who previously teamed up with Dynomutt in his own series.

Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane will reunite with Amanda Seyfried and Giovanni Ribisi for the animated Ted series. MacFarlane has revealed the show will pick up immediately after the second Ted movie. This allows the writers to delve into new storylines, especially Ted and Tami-Lynn adjusting to life with their adopted son, and the blossoming relationship between John and Sam, which was left somewhat unresolved in the sequel.

Seth MacFarlane hinting at several seasons of the animated Ted series would be a first for both Mark Wahlberg and Joel Barth. Wahlberg’s previous scripted TV work includes the 1993 film The Substitute and a recurring role as himself on HBO’s Entourage. Barth, meanwhile, has mostly appeared in single episodes of shows like MacFarlane’s Family Guy (even before Ted), CSI, and Cougar Town.

Now that almost a year has passed since it was announced, and the voice actors have finished recording, Ted: The Animated Series might be released before the end of the year. However, with season 2 of the live-action Ted series – which Seth MacFarlane has hinted will be the last – coming soon, MacFarlane and Peacock might prioritize that show this year. Also, if filming for season 4 of The Orville actually begins, it could make more sense to release the animated series in 2027.

Ted season 2 begins streaming in its entirety on Peacock on March 5.
