Mark Wahlberg’s Action-Comedy Franchise Is Dominating Apple TV’s Streaming Charts

Mark Wahlberg’s new movie, The Family Plan, is getting off to a great start with viewers as the holiday season begins, and it’s performing well on Apple TV+.

I’m so thrilled to see that Family Plan 2 is a massive hit! It actually debuted at the very top of the Apple TV charts on November 23rd, 2025, and the original is right behind it at number two. What’s even more amazing is how popular it is globally – it’s number one in almost every country! It seems Wahlberg’s sequel is a winner everywhere you look.

In Laos, the movie Family Plan is currently the most popular, and in Turkmenistan, Highest 2 Lowest, directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington, remains number one.

Mark Wahlberg plays a retired hitman in “The Family Plan,” who has to unexpectedly take his family on the run. Released in December 2023, the movie quickly became the most-watched film ever on AppleTV+.

Though Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, became the most popular movie on the streaming service, Family Plan 2 is now trying to take back that top spot for the Family Plan series.

When “The Family Plan” was first released, most critics didn’t like it, giving it a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel hasn’t fared any better with reviewers, and currently has an even lower score of 15% on the site, although that number could change as more reviews come in.

ScreenRant strongly criticized The Family Plan 2, describing it as incredibly boring and lacking humor.

According to the review, director Simon Cellan Jones’ new film is a complete disaster – so boring and uninspired that it’s actually depressing. The reviewer compares watching it to sitting through a two-hour advertisement for a credit card.

Similar to the Vacation films, The Family Plan 2 sends Dan Wahlberg, his wife Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), and their children on a trip to Europe. While in Paris, Dan’s secret life as an assassin resurfaces, creating a mix of action and humor.

Kit Harington, known for his role in Game of Thrones, is joining the cast of Family Plan 2. He’ll play a character who creates problems for Mark Wahlberg and his family, culminating in an action-packed fight scene on a moving double-decker bus – a key moment in the film.

Mark Wahlberg talked with Kit Harington and Robert Monaghan about filming the bus fight scene, explaining how difficult it was to coordinate the fight moves with limited space and other challenges, as reported by FITBOOK.

The fight scene was planned for a stable, level surface. But filming it with a moving bus, where the actor couldn’t be seen by the driver, created a lot of unpredictable challenges. Neither the actor nor the driver knew what the other would do next, and the whole setup felt poorly considered.

I was so relieved to hear Mark Wahlberg say that he and the rest of the cast made it through filming without any serious injuries! He mentioned they did pick up a few bruises along the way, but thankfully nothing major.

I have to say, all the work that went into making The Family Plan 2 really paid off. It’s become a huge hit on streaming, right up there with the first movie – a definite success!
