Get ready for Wuthering Heights, the new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s famous novel! Margot Robbie (known from Barbie and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) stars as Catherine Earnshaw, a strong-willed young woman who shares her childhood with Heathcliff, an orphaned boy brought into her family by her father, played by Martin Clunes. Jacob Elordi, recently gaining popularity with roles in Saltburn and Frankenstein, plays Heathcliff.
Catherine and Heathcliff have a powerful and passionate connection, which the film emphasizes – the trailer even caused a stir with its suggestive scenes. However, Catherine chooses to marry the rich and well-respected Edgar Linton (Shazad Latif) instead of Heathcliff. Driven by anger and hurt, Heathcliff seeks revenge by marrying Edgar’s sister, Isabella (Alison Oliver), and then mistreating her.
For over a century, Wuthering Heights has stayed popular, inspiring numerous films, TV shows, books, and songs. The intense and jealous connection between Catherine and Heathcliff is a key reason for its enduring appeal. Interestingly, the real-life casting of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in these roles sparked some debate, but it seems to mirror the story’s passionate and complicated relationship in a way.
During an interview for Vogue Australia, Margot Robbie asked Jacob Elordi what his favorite scene from the movie was. He replied that he much preferred shooting scenes when she was present.
Robbie: “I hated shooting when you weren’t there.”
Elordi: “There was this moment when she was off with Shazad [Latif] for god knows how long.”
Robbie: “And you were off with Alison [Oliver]. And I was like, this is just not right!”
Elordi: “Loved shooting with Alison, and Shazad’s a great guy.”
Robbie: “Love them more than anything. But I was like, he’s mine!”
Margot Robbie Admits She Grows “Codependent” With the People She Works With
The cast members described how close they became while filming. For example, Jacob Elordi surprised Margot Robbie with a room full of roses on Valentine’s Day. In an interview with Fandango, Robbie explained that forming strong bonds with her coworkers is typical for her. She admitted to becoming very attached to the people she works with and feeling heartbroken when a project finishes, saying she quickly felt that way with Jacob as well.
It all fits the movie because Catherine and Heathcliff are known for their intense connection. Robbie even highlighted this in her script. She explained, “I used color-coding throughout the script to show the evolving relationship. Any scene with Heathcliff was marked with shades of pink and red—the closer they were, the brighter the color. When they were distant, I used blue instead.”

The way Robbie and Elordi talk about each other reminds some people of how Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo spoke before the release of Wicked: Part Two. It makes you wonder if this close connection will improve their acting. We’ll see when Wuthering Heights comes out on February 13th, right before Valentine’s Day.
