Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh, who starred as siblings on the NBC drama Manifest, are working together again on a new NBC series. Manifest originally ran for three seasons on NBC before being canceled, but it was later revived by Netflix for a final season. This reunion comes almost three years after the show’s controversial ending in 2023.
As a big fan of crime dramas, I’m really excited to hear that Roxburgh and Dallas are working together again! They’ll be appearing in an upcoming episode of The Hunting Party’s second season. Roxburgh plays Bex Henderson, a former FBI profiler who now tracks down escaped serial killers with a specialized team. And Dallas? He’s going to be playing one of those escaped killers – the Connecticut Cobbler – in episode 8. It’s going to be a great watch, I can already tell!
Elliott Carr, known as the Connecticut Cobbler, used to be a shoemaker. He has a disturbing preference for extremely rare and exotic leathers – including those from dangerous animals and, horrifically, from the people he murders by skinning them alive.
This new development will be quite different from the relationship Ben and Michaela Stone had throughout the four seasons of Manifest. Though they occasionally disagreed, they were fundamentally close and supportive siblings. Their shared experience on Flight 828 – returning after over five years with the mysterious Callings – profoundly changed them, creating a deep and special connection.
In The Hunting Party, Roxburgh’s character, Bex, will be pursuing Connecticut Cobbler, a dangerous killer played by Dallas. Cobbler’s crimes are reminiscent of Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, as he’s murdering people to create a new pair of shoes.
This new role is a big departure for actor Josh Dallas, moving away from his parts in both Manifest and Once Upon a Time, where he was known for playing heroic characters like Prince Charming. Having previously played the noble Fandral in the first Thor movie, Dallas is now switching gears to play a villain.
As a huge fan of both The Hunting Party and Manifest, I was thrilled to hear that Stephanie Roxburgh and Dallas Roberts are sharing the screen again, even if it’s just for one episode! But the best part? Stephanie recently told ScreenRant that Jeff Rake, the creator of Manifest, isn’t done with that world yet! He’s apparently working on a spinoff, and he’s also written a novel called Detour that ties into the series. I’m so excited to see where he takes things next – here’s what she had to say about it all:
As a big fan, I’ve noticed the creators have definitely been playing with similar concepts and settings, even exploring different stories within that same universe. And get this – Jeff Rake actually wrote a novel called ‘Detour’ that’s set in the same world as ‘Manifest’! It’s coming out soon, and I think anyone who enjoyed the show will find a lot to love in it. Who knows, maybe we’ll even see some connections between them down the line – a crossover would be amazing!
Before Holly Roxburgh spoke about it, creator Sam Rake announced on August 28, 2024 (known as ‘828 Day’) that he and his team are developing a potential Manifest spin-off. However, he emphasized that the project hadn’t been officially approved yet. It’s likely this is the same spin-off Roxburgh mentioned, although it’s currently unclear if she, Melissa Roxburgh, or any other actors from the original series will be part of it.
Fans of Manifest can soon see Ben Roxburgh and Melissa Dallas together again in The Hunting Party. Their characters will have a different kind of relationship than the one they shared as the Stone siblings.
The Hunting Party releases new episodes Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
