A fresh announcement unveiled that the upcoming Superman film, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” under DC Studios, is set to start production shortly. This project further develops James Gunn’s vision for Superman, delving deeper into the narratives of both Clark Kent and Lex Luthor.

Production for Superman 2, Man of Tomorrow to reportedly begin in 2026

According to Nexus Point News, it appears that filming for the sequel titled “Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow” is expected to start in June 2026.

James Gunn, the joint CEO and chair of DC Studios, will be responsible for penning, directing, and producing the upcoming film. Alongside him, Peter Safran will also produce. In this production, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are set to reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively, taking on the roles of co-leads. The anticipated release date for this film is July 9, 2027, under Warner Bros. Discovery’s banner.

Back in September 2025, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I finally learned about the title and release date of this highly anticipated project! To share the news, James Gunn unveiled a captivating teaser image showcasing none other than Superman and Lex Luthor. As if that wasn’t intriguing enough, more artwork from Corenswet and Hoult hinted at an exciting narrative where our two titans may not only collide but also work together.

In the DC Comics lore, we know that Luthor arms himself with a Kryptonite-infused Warsuit to rival Superman’s might – a detail that Gunn tantalizingly teased in his promotional image. I can hardly wait to see how this story unfolds!

In July 2025, the highly anticipated film “Superman” premiered, kicking off a fresh start for the DC Universe. Masterminded by director James Gunn, this movie brought to life new characters such as Lois Lane portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan, Jimmy Olsen embodied by Skyler Gisondo, Mister Terrific played by Edi Gathegi, and Guy Gardner/Green Lantern acted by Nathan Fillion. With an impressive budget of $225 million, it went on to earn over $611 million globally, securing its position as the top-grossing superhero movie of the year.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve heard murmurs that “Man of Tomorrow” might bring Milly Alcock onto the scene as Supergirl, with Isabela Merced potentially soaring in as Hawkgirl. The DC Universe is gearing up for more stories with upcoming projects like “Lanterns,” “Supergirl,” and “Clayface,” which promise to broaden our horizons. Meanwhile, Peacemaker Season 2 on Max (previously HBO Max) continues the tale of Superman and lays a solid foundation for the franchise.
