Magic Tree House Finally Gets A TV Adaptation 33 Years After Its Release

The popular children’s book series, Magic Tree House, is being adapted into an animated show.

The popular Magic Tree House book series, written by Mary Pope Osborne and enjoyed by readers for 33 years, is becoming an animated show. Entertainment company Spuree and TV studio Rideback are working together to bring the books to life. Osborne will be closely involved in the project as a creative partner, making sure the adaptation stays true to her original stories.

In a recent interview with Variety, Mary Pope Osborne explained why it took over thirty years to greenlight a Magic Tree House TV show. She didn’t want to rush into an agreement with the first studio interested; she was determined to find the right creative partners. Osborne wanted to ensure she’d have a strong voice in adapting a series she deeply cares about.

She expressed deep gratitude to Spuree and Rideback for including her in the adaptation process. She particularly appreciated that they empowered her with creative control instead of simply taking over, which she noted is unusual for writers whose work is being adapted. She’s thankful to be able to contribute to the decisions shaping the TV show.

I’ve long hoped to see my books adapted for the screen with my creative input – something most authors don’t get. Now, thanks to Spuree and Rideback, that’s finally happening! I’m thrilled to be able to work with my chosen team to bring the ‘Magic Tree House’ books to life on screen while staying true to the heart of the stories.

Although the Magic Tree House books haven’t been turned into a TV show or movie, they’ve been adapted into several stage musicals. Eight of these musicals featured music by Randy Courts, a well-known and award-winning composer. Courts has received honors like the AT&T New Plays Award and several ASCAP Popular Panel Awards, and was even nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. He will also be composing original music for a new series based on the books.

The new animated series will be available online and through streaming services. Its creators, Spuree and Osborne, also intend to release it internationally, as Spuree already has a large and dedicated following in many countries who are expected to enjoy the show.

As of right now, there’s no official information about when or where you’ll be able to watch Magic Tree House. We don’t have a release date or know which streaming services might carry it.
