Mad Men 4K Remaster On HBO Max Includes Error In Iconic Vomiting Scene

A notable mistake has been discovered in a famous scene from Mad Men after the show was recently remastered in 4K and added to HBO Max on December 1st. This is the first time the Emmy-winning AMC series has received this high-definition upgrade.

Viewers have spotted a mistake in the new 4K version of Mad Men on HBO Max that wasn’t present in the original. In the scene where Roger Sterling (John Slattery) gets sick on the office floor during a meeting with clients, a crew member is briefly visible at the edge of the screen – they were holding the prop used to create the vomiting effect. You can see the moment in a post from DiscussingFilm on X.

A scene from the Mad Men episode “Red in the Face” (season 1, episode 7) is mislabeled as “Babylon” on HBO Max. Conversely, the episode “5G” (season 1, episode 5) is labeled as “Red in the Face.” As of today, these errors on HBO Max haven’t been fixed.

The website Vulture was the first to point out the errors, but it seems they weren’t HBO Max’s doing. A source says the streaming service received incorrect files from Lionsgate Television, the studio producing the show. Lionsgate is now working on sending the correct versions, and HBO Max will update the episodes as soon as they have them.

The recent mistake with Mad Men continues a pattern of visual errors at HBO, following issues like the coffee cup appearing in Game of Thrones season 8, and more recent problems in The Last of Us and House of the Dragon.

Created by Matthew Weiner, Mad Men centers on Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), a brilliant and mysterious creative director at the advertising agency Sterling Cooper in 1960s New York City. The show also stars Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, and Kiernan Shipka.

Running from 2007 to 2015 for seven seasons, Mad Men was a huge award winner, earning 16 Emmys. It made history as the first basic cable show to win the prestigious Outstanding Drama Series award – and it won it for its first four seasons! Today, many people consider it to be one of the greatest TV shows ever made.
