The film, about a killer robot doll, received overwhelmingly positive reviews – a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes – and earned $180 million at the box office with a budget of just $12 million. Following this success, a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, was quickly made, but released last year to disappointing reviews and box office returns, earning only $39 million with a $25 million budget.

While a third M3GAN movie was considered, plans are on hold after the second film didn’t perform well financially. Blumhouse could revive the franchise with a simple solution: create an epic horror crossover. These team-ups are rare in the horror genre, but consistently successful at the box office, even if the movie itself isn’t great. For example, Freddy vs. Jason in 2003 earned over four times its production budget. The same holds true for Alien vs. Predator, despite its poor sequel. There’s one crossover opportunity that could save the M3GAN franchise and draw horror fans back to theaters.

Blumhouse Should Collaborate with Universal to Make M3GAN Vs. Chucky

As a horror fan, I’ve been thinking about dream crossovers, and Blumhouse needs to make a movie with M3GAN facing off against Chucky! Seriously, Chucky is a horror icon, and the Child’s Play movies have always done well, earning over $200 million. Plus, he even got his own TV show on SYFY which everyone loved – it had a 94% rating across three seasons! It’s a shame it was canceled, but imagine the chaos if M3GAN and Chucky went head-to-head!

Ownership of the Chucky character is divided. Universal Pictures controls the rights to the original movies and the SY-FY television series, while Amazon owns the 2019 remake, which presented Chucky as an AI-powered doll. A crossover event featuring both versions of Chucky is most likely to happen through a partnership between Blumhouse and Universal, similar to their successful collaboration on the movie M3GAN.

A battle between M3GAN and Tiffany would recapture the genuinely creepy horror vibe of the first M3GAN film. Seeing the sarcastic AI face off against the potty-mouthed doll – and maybe even Tiffany’s romantic interest – would create a fantastic clash between technology and the supernatural, and it would be a really funny horror comedy, too.

Now Is the Time to Make the Epic Horror Crossover, Before It’s Too Late

Since the Chucky series is currently on hold, now is the perfect time to revive it. Fans really loved the show, so it’s best to bring back the popular characters quickly while the momentum is still there.

It really hits me that Brad Dourif is 75, and honestly, you never know what the future holds. As much as I love Mark Hamill’s voice work, to me, Dourif is Chucky, and it’s the role he’s probably most famous for. A big crossover event like this just wouldn’t feel right without him – it would be like making Freddy vs. Jason without Robert Englund as Freddy! It just wouldn’t be the same.

Okay, so Don Mancini, the mastermind behind Chucky, has let slip that he’s cooking up another project! While he’s staying tight-lipped about specifics – no release date is set in stone – it sounds like he’s planning something that’ll connect the dots between the cancelled TV series and a brand new story. The buzz is it won’t be a complete reboot, but rather a continuation, and we might see it hit screens within the next year or two. I’m cautiously optimistic – anything Mancini does with Chucky is usually worth checking out!
