I’m so excited for the new HBO series! From what I’ve heard, they’re really starting fresh with a mostly new cast, and it’s going to be a really different take on the world J.K. Rowling created. The actor playing Draco Malfoy even said they’re making some major changes, which honestly, I’m totally here for!
Tom Felton famously played the character in all eight Harry Potter films. He recently returned to the role as an older Draco Malfoy in a new series. Lox Pratt will play Draco in the upcoming show, and he told 1883 Magazine that this version of the character will be different from what fans have seen in the books and movies.
The actor, making his debut in the new series, hinted that the upcoming Harry Potter adaptation will expand on the story beyond what was included in the original books.
Pratt noted that the books heavily influenced Harry’s journey, which was also reflected in how the film was made.
The actor explained that the showrunner, Francesca Gardiner, and director, Mark Mylod, have already discussed this in interviews, and there’s a lot more to the story that viewers will discover.
Pratt recently explained what these changes will look like, saying viewers will get a closer look at the teachers and their classrooms. We’ll also see Draco’s home life, with some particularly strong scenes that offer a new understanding of his character. He didn’t want to reveal too much detail, though.
The actor drew a connection between his character, Jack, in Lord of the Flies and his previous role as Draco Malfoy, and expressed his appreciation for the nuanced portrayal he was able to achieve in this new adaptation. He said he was thankful for the adjustments made to the character.
Draco in the movies feels a bit one-dimensional – just the typical sneering bad guy. I think there’s a lot more to his character, and we really need to understand his motivations. You get hints of that in the films with his father, Lucius, but the new series is fantastic at exploring that depth. I’m really excited to help bring this version of the story to life.
The Harry Potter Series Was Hyped by the Only Returning Actor
As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about the news that the new Harry Potter series is coming to HBO in early 2027! I know there was some initial pushback about a reboot, but honestly, I think this gives them a chance to really dive deep into the world J.K. Rowling created. Chris Pratt recently mentioned they’re not just trying to recreate the eight films, but to capture the full magic and detail of the books – and that’s what I’m hoping for!
Recently, it was announced that Warwick Davis will be the only original cast member returning for the new series, reprising his role as Professor Filius Flitwick. Like Lox Pratt, Davis has hinted that the new version will be a very detailed and faithful adaptation, offering more depth than previous iterations.
We’re essentially telling the same story, which means we’re having similar experiences as actors while filming. It’s strange being back at Leavesden Studios, where we originally filmed the movies, and revisiting everything.
Harry Potter premieres on HBO Max in early 2027.
