When Loot Studios initially envisioned Malediction, they aimed to combine the best elements of miniature wargames and tabletop role-playing games into one expansive experience. Back in Winter 2024, the developers described a game that, if successful, could revolutionize how people play tabletop wargames. Now, nearly two years later, Loot Studios isn’t just fulfilling those early promises—they’re pushing the boundaries of tabletop deck-building games with each new update.
In February 2026, Loot Studios added to the world of their game, Malediction, with a new Lore Primer written by George Mann. These new products and updates are intended to make the game easier for beginners to pick up, while also giving long-time fans more to enjoy. I was given some review copies, and it’s clear that Malediction is a truly exceptional tabletop game.
Malediction’s 2-Player Starter Boxes Have Everything You Need to Start Playing
Malediction is a game for 2 to 4 players that includes special Starter Boxes designed for two players. Each box comes with two complete Seeker decks, a code to download files for 3D-printed miniatures, one 20-sided die (D20), cardboard standees with plastic bases, tokens, a ruler, a lore booklet, a quickstart guide, and a playmat to help you get started.
Right now, there are two ways to start playing. I had a chance to check out the box with Seekers Sigrith Andravos and Thundersteps. The packaging is really well-designed and has plenty of space for all the cardboard pieces and their stands. While the 3D miniatures are great, you don’t need them to begin playing the game.
Honestly, the lore leaflets really pulled me into this game. It’s amazing how much backstory the developers created – it reminded me of all the games I love, both tabletop and video games. There’s something about Malediction that feels really familiar, almost like playing a tough, atmospheric game from FromSoftware. I was hooked on the lore almost instantly!
I received a physical copy of the Lore Primer from Loot Studios, and it’s sparked my excitement to dive into this richly detailed world. The Lore Primer is also available as a free download on the Malediction website, offering both new and returning players a fascinating look behind the scenes. The artwork and storytelling are truly stunning.
Two New Seeker Decks Join Malediction’s Lineup
Every Seeker in Malediction feels distinct and engaging, and the game world is rich with possibilities. The artwork is stunning, vividly depicting both the Seekers and the land of Agnar. Malediction consistently builds upon its story, and the latest release centers around two new Seeker decks: Griza and Liena. These new characters bring fresh strategies and add even more complexity to the gameplay.
Every Seeker Deck includes a page of story and background information to inspire your gameplay. Inside each box, you’ll find the complete deck of cards, one 20-sided die, a guide to get you started quickly, and a code for 20 digital miniatures you can 3D print. You’ll also get files to print a five-piece terrain set.
You can also find smaller packs of miniatures and standees at the Malediction online store. These new miniature packs feature high-quality, professionally printed figures of the Seekers and their units. Plus, Loot Studios offers digital files (STLs) for all their miniatures, letting you print your own Seekers and armies at home. No matter how you choose to play – with pre-printed minis, standees, or printed figures – Malediction offers a lot of flexibility.
Malediction’s Community Momentum Means Big Things for the Game
Loot Studios has created a fantastic and growing community around their miniature and card game. They recently launched the Herald Program, where dedicated fans – the Malediction Heralds – partner with local game stores and Loot Studios to bring the game’s world, Agnar, to life for players in their area.
Nearly 100 skilled painters, known as Journeymen, are driving the growth of the Heralds of Malediction community. They organize events like painting meetups, game demonstrations, and competitive tournaments locally. As the community expands, Malediction and Loot Studios will host their first major tournament, the Grand Tournament, from March 25th to 29th at Adepticon 2026 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
If you’re a dedicated gamer, or enjoy immersive games with deep stories and character development, Malediction offers a fantastic experience. The rules are straightforward to learn, a single game lasts around an hour, and there’s a lot of potential for collecting – especially if you enjoy 3D printing and painting miniatures.
Loot Studios is having a launch sale on its new products! It’s a great opportunity to start collecting, with prices slashed for incredible deals. Don’t wait – the sale ends March 13th.
