Loki Writer Reveals Wild X-Men Location He Couldn’t Include In The Void, And Now I’m Hoping The Mutants’ Reboot Uses It

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are two entities referred to as ‘The Void.’ One is the dark side of Lewis Pullman’s character, Bob (also known as Sentry), and the other is a strange location where remnants of timelines the Time Variance Authority has eliminated are discarded. This second Void is full of hidden references to other Marvel stories, but Loki writer Michael Waldron revealed one exciting X-Men location he ultimately couldn’t feature there. This makes me optimistic that the upcoming X-Men reboot will find a way to use this location.

Screenwriter Michael Waldron, known for his work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the forthcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, recently shared his experiences writing for Loki during a Reddit Q&A. He was promoting his new Hulu series, Chad Powers, which debuted last month and is scheduled to continue in 2025. When asked about maintaining creativity while working within the established rules of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he explained:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe allows for a lot of creative exploration. I personally think the Loki series is incredibly unique. I rarely faced restrictions – the only instance that comes to mind is when I initially included a version of the Mojoverse in the Void, which ultimately didn’t make the final cut.

The Mojoverse is a strange alternate dimension inhabited by creatures without bones. It’s named after Mojo, a villain from the X-Men comics who first appeared in 1985. Mojo, as one of the native ‘Spineless’ beings who rejected the use of external skeletons, took control of this realm and renamed it – and its only planet – after himself. The inhabitants of Mojoworld became fascinated with Earth’s radio and TV broadcasts, developing a strong appetite for entertainment. This left Mojo in charge of creating films and television shows to keep his people amused.

Mojo and his world have appeared in both the original X-Men: The Animated Series and the recent X-Men ’97 revival. After Disney bought 20th Century Fox a few years before Loki Season 1 aired, Marvel Studios had the rights to use characters and settings from the X-Men universe. While writer Michael Waldron didn’t say why the Mojoverse wasn’t included in The Void, it would have been fun to see how Loki reacted to its strange qualities.

The Mojoverse would be a great setting for the upcoming X-Men reboot directed by Jake Schreier (known for Thunderbolts). With the conclusion of Avengers: Secret Wars and the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios is looking for ways to make this new X-Men series distinct from the previous films made by 20th Century Fox. Introducing characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey to the Mojoverse and having them battle Mojo could be a fantastic way to achieve that, and it would be incredible to see such a unique villain brought to life on screen.

I’m really excited about the new X-Men movie! The writer, Michael Lesslie, did great work on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. We don’t know when it’ll hit theaters yet, but it’s definitely on my radar. And while Loki on Disney+ wrapped up last year, thankfully we’ll still get to see Tom Hiddleston as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday – that’s coming out December 18, 2026, and I’m already counting down the days!
