Despite whispers of its possible termination circulating on the web, it appears that Amazon MGM Studios remains committed to their Tomb Raider live-action TV series. Their latest announcement, though, hints at another postponement in the project’s progress.

What is the new update for the Tomb Raider TV show?

The filming for the live-action series adaptation of Tomb Raider, as reported by Production Weekly, has allegedly been pushed back to the first quarter of 2026 – approximately two years following its initial announcement. Previously, it was speculated that delays in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s adaptation were due to challenges in finalizing the script.

Despite the studio’s official confirmations regarding the cast, it emerged in late November 2024 that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner was believed to be negotiating for the main role of Lara Croft. While specific plot details and characters are currently under secrecy, this project was originally envisioned as an expansive, globe-trotting adventure.

This refers to the most recent live-action transformation of Crystal Dynamics’ successful video game franchise, which comes after the popular Lara Croft: Tomb Raider films starring Angelina Jolie, and Alicia Vikander’s 2018 adaptation. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, in her overall agreement with Amazon MGM Studios, has agreed to take on the roles of both writer and executive producer for this project.
