Lily Collins And I Broke Down Emily In Paris’ Season 5 Ending And What It Could Say About Her Future With (Spoiler)

Be warned: major spoilers for Season 5 of Emily in Paris follow! If you haven’t watched it yet, proceed with caution. You’ll need a Netflix subscription to watch the latest season of this stylish show.

In the fifth season of Emily in Paris, Emily (Lily Collins) made some grown-up choices and decided to remain in Paris. But a postcard from Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) at the very end of the season—released in 2025—suggests things might not be so simple. I spoke with Lily Collins about the postcard and what it could mean for Emily’s relationship with the chef.

To quickly recap the end of Season 5, Emily ends her relationship with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) so they can both pursue their own lives and careers in their home countries. It was a thoughtful and sensible choice. The season closes with a postcard from Gabriel, her long-time crush, asking if she’ll meet him in Greece, as shown below.

That made me curious if Emily would reply to the postcard and travel to Greece. I asked Lily Collins and Ashley Park (who plays Mindy) about it during an interview with TopMob, and here’s what they said:

  • Lily Collins: Emily, this time in at the end of this season, is actually really good in her love life with herself.
  • Ashley Park: Yeah, Mindy’s the messy one.

This season, Mindy’s dealing with a complicated love life, caught between Nico and Alfie. In contrast, Emily is feeling confident and happy in her relationship. When Gabriel sends a postcard, things are going really well for them, according to Collins.

She’s broken up with Marcello and is also moving on from Gabriel. They’ve both decided to live independent lives, being honest with each other and offering mutual respect and support.

Given Gabriel and Emily’s complicated history, her reaction is understandable. They’re finally doing well together in Season 5, but this postcard might disrupt that.

Lily Collins discussed how her character would likely respond to the note, and she doesn’t believe it will spark a romance. She feels it’s “too early” for anything like that, and explained her reasoning.

I think she’ll probably reply to the postcard eventually, but it’s too early for her to suddenly say she’s changed her mind. It’s not about that at all, I think. It seems like she’s just open to the idea of exploring another part of the world. Emily seems happy with things, but Gabriel is the one who’s starting to have doubts.

I agree with her assessment. Even though I hoped Emily and Gabriel would get back together while watching Season 5 on Netflix, I also appreciate their current individual paths. I also think Emily has definitely moved on. While it’s possible their feelings could be rekindled someday, it seems Gabriel is the one still hoping for a reconciliation, not her.

Ashley Park and Collins discussed how this moment echoes the finale of Season 4, and highlighted the shift in dynamics between Emily and Gabriel.

  • Ashley Park: It’s kind of the end of last season, too. She’s like off on a Vespa in Rome, and Gabriel’s like ‘Mindy, where are her coordinates?’
  • Lily Collins: Yeah, kind of nice to see the shift from Season 1 and 2 with Emily and Gabriel, and now it’s like she’s the one that’s pretty solid, you know?

If Emily in Paris gets another season, I’m really hoping we see Emily’s reaction to that postcard. Will she turn down the opportunity, or will she go? And if she does go, will she and her former love interest get back together, or will they remain just friends? That’s what I’m eager to find out. But Collins’ reaction suggests it might not be the right time for a romantic reunion.

Emily and Gabriel have both grown a lot since the beginning of the show, and they’re no longer the same couple. Hopefully, whatever happens between them now will be positive and lead to healthy decisions about their future together.
