LEGO’s Willy Wonka Set Looks Scrumdiddlyumptious (And I Want It Now)

Get ready to enter a world built entirely of LEGO! I’m always searching for cool LEGO sets based on movies, and a coworker recently showed me one I’d never seen before – a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory set. It just came out in September and perfectly captures the magic of this classic kids’ film. Now, let’s find out if the LEGO snozzberries really taste like snozzberries!

Pieces And Minifigs Galore!

Each Christmas, my brother-in-law counts all the new LEGO sets his kids receive. This year’s set is large, but not nearly as massive as the Star Wars Death Star, which has over 9,000 pieces! This Willy Wonka set has a more reasonable 2,025 pieces – still a lot, even for someone demanding like Veruca Salt.

The set includes nine minifigures, including Veruca Salt, two Oompa Loompas, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teevee, Grandpa Joe, Charlie, and Mr. Wonka. It would have been nice to have Slugworth too, but it’s still a fantastic collection of characters. While it’s not a complete chocolate factory like the one Charlie wins, it’s a really good alternative.

It Includes My Favorite Scene In The Movie

As a film fan, what really grabbed me about this LEGO set was how prominently it featured my absolute favorite scene – that crazy boat ride! Even as a kid, it was both terrifying and completely captivating, I just couldn’t look away. It’s funny, I’ve been really into LEGO sets with boats lately, because I was also recently obsessed with building the boat scene from Jaws. Seems like that imagery is really sticking with me!

I enjoy mixing LEGO sets, so I’m thinking about adding the shark from another set into the chocolate river to make that scene even more frightening. Perhaps Quint could be giving the kids a tour and performing a similar song to the one Willy Wonka sings in the chocolate factory. There are endless possibilities with this set – anything is possible, and you don’t need a golden ticket to enjoy it!

As a LEGO fan, I’ve been loving their recent releases! They’ve done amazing sets like the pirate ship from The Goonies and the DeLorean from Back to the Future. But I’m especially excited about the new Willy Wonka set – and surprisingly, it’s not as expensive as some LEGO sets, coming in at $219.99 directly from LEGO. While I wait for it to ship, I’m planning a Willy Wonka movie marathon with my HBO Max subscription – the 1971 version is a must-watch!
