Okay, so I just finished watching Episode 7 of Law & Order: SVU‘s 27th season, titled “False Idols,” and I need to talk about it. Be warned, though – I’m about to dive into some major spoilers! You can catch the episode yourself if you have a Peacock subscription, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to hold off if you want to go in completely fresh.
The latest episode of Law & Order: SVU featured the show’s typical disturbing crimes, giving Captain Benson and her team a difficult case to solve. A highlight was the return of Fin Tutuola from medical leave – a welcome sight for fans. He quickly reconnected with Rollins, playfully challenged the new detective Griffin, and had some meaningful interactions with Benson. However, his return was short-lived, as he departed again. Fortunately, Ice-T hinted at positive developments for the show’s future in the 2026 season.
Fin’s Long-Awaited Return (And Quick Departure)
Fin told his team he was fully recovered and eager to return to fieldwork, despite privately confessing to Benson that he wondered if the injury – and the theft of his gun – might not have happened if he’d been more experienced. Though still somewhat strained after the issues from the beginning of Season 27, Benson did her best to reassure him that he was ready to go back to work.
You know, I was really excited to see Fin back on the job, especially since he was physically doing so well. But it turns out he wasn’t emotionally ready yet. There was this one moment – he almost pulled his gun when it definitely wasn’t necessary, and Rollins thankfully stopped him. He had to tell Benson he needed more time, and she was super supportive, telling him his job would always be there. Honestly, as a fan, it was a bit of a letdown to hear his return was going to be cut short, but I’m glad he’s prioritizing his well-being.
There is good news, however, courtesy of Ice-T on social media.
Ice-T Shares A Silver Lining On Social Media
While Fin was pretty glum when he realized that he wasn’t ready yet to come back to the job, Ice-T sported a smile on Instagram when he shared a video message with fans on November 4. He acknowledged that he’s “not on the show as much” this year while he’s been doing “a lot of other things on the side.” He went on:
I’m still part of the show and currently ranked number two. Since I’m filming today, I thought I’d give you a quick behind-the-scenes look while I’m in my dressing room.
He shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Law & Order: SVU, introducing the writer working on that day’s episode. He then continued with his post:
I haven’t been on the show as frequently lately, but I’m still part of the cast, so there’s no need to worry! And when Fin appears this season, it’s always great. Please keep watching – we’re currently filming Season 27, and I’m determined to make sure there’s a Season 28 as well.
Will Law & Order: SVU return for a 28th season in 2026-2027? It’s not a certainty, but Ice-T’s continued enthusiasm is encouraging. He previously expressed confidence in the show potentially reaching 30 seasons, as long as Mariska Hargitay continues to play Olivia Benson. And honestly, SVU just wouldn’t be the same without Ice-T! I was so excited to see Ice-T share a photo hinting at what’s coming! It looks like Fin is going to be crossing over into Season 25 of Law & Order, and he’ll be working alongside Detective Vincent Riley, played by Reid Scott, and the fantastic David Ajala, who we first met in the episode before “False Idols.” It’s going to be amazing to see these characters together!

Ice-T has been sharing glimpses behind the scenes of Law & Order, and with the fall finale of SVU airing so soon after the episode “False Idols,” it’s likely this will be the last new episode featuring Fin until 2026. However, things are looking good for the show and for Ice-T’s role moving forward. Don’t miss the season’s final episode on Thursday, November 20th at 9 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
