Landman Fans Hooted And Hollered Over Billy Bob Thornton’s Full-Frontal Scene, But Co-Creator Says Not So Fast

The second season of Landman ended with a dramatic and optimistic finale in 2026, wrapping up a season full of events. A particularly memorable moment involved star Billy Bob Thornton in a surprisingly revealing scene, which sparked a strong reaction from viewers – some were excited, while others weren’t. Now, the show’s creator is explaining what happened, and it wasn’t quite as explicit as it appeared.

The latest episode of Taylor Sheridan’s series began with Tommy Thornton waking up in bed with room service, and a bit of an embarrassing situation. He was only wearing a t-shirt, briefly exposing himself to the waitress, before Angela stepped in to help. It was a surprising and unusual way to start the show, but co-creator Christian Wallace clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that it wasn’t a completely nude scene.

Let me assure you, there was no actual nudity. We had a fantastic intimacy coordinator on set, but the first prosthetic they brought in was… let’s just say it didn’t quite work. It was a bit much, honestly, and we all agreed it wasn’t the right approach. So we opted for something much more subtle and tasteful. (Chuckles.)

Filming scenes of that nature can be really daunting for everyone involved, both actors and crew. It’s great they still used an intimacy coordinator, even for a short scene, and despite the use of a prosthetic. Even a standard-sized prop can present challenges, but it sounds like the team managed everything professionally on set.

Wallace complimented the props team on their ability to create convincing illusions, and he remembered a funny nickname Thornton had for one particular prop. He explained it like this:

We had a really funny day filming. I’m always surprised when people assume Billy actually did the full-frontal scene, though! Huge credit to our intimacy coordinator for making it look so believable, and to the props team – they built a whole setup, which Billy jokingly called his “rig.”

People had a lot of different reactions to the episode, regardless of how realistic it was. Some thought the inclusion of this element wasn’t needed, while others found it funny. After it became available on Paramount+, viewers shared their opinions online, and the response was very divided.

Okay, so everyone’s been really enjoying Billy Bob Thornton’s performance in Landman, but there’s been a lot of chatter about his character, Tommy. Rumors have been swirling that he might be leaving the show before Season 3, which understandably worried fans. But Thornton himself has stepped in to reassure us – he says he’s definitely sticking around! So we can expect more Tommy in Landman, that’s good news. However, it remains to be seen if we’ll continue to see… well, let’s just say all of Tommy, whether intentionally shown or not.

With a show like Landman, each episode is unpredictable. While some viewers didn’t appreciate the simulated nude scene, it definitely sparked conversation, which may have been the intention. We might see similar moments in Season 3, but fans will have to wait and see.
