Kylo Ren Movie Petition Gains Steam, Demanding Disney Uncancel Hunt For Ben Solo

Okay, so I’m seeing a ton of buzz online – apparently, Disney had a plan for a Kylo Ren spin-off movie! Fans are starting a petition to try and get Disney to revisit the idea, and honestly, I’m kind of with them. Word is this film, called The Hunt for Ben Solo, would have been really interesting – directed by Steven Soderbergh, the guy who did Oceans 11, and written by Scott Z. Burns, who worked on The Bourne Ultimatum and Rogue One! Adam Driver apparently talked about it, and now everyone’s upset it got shelved. It sounds like it could have been something special, and a lot of us are hoping Disney will reconsider.

Fans are upset about Disney’s cancellation of the planned Kylo Ren movie and have been expressing their disappointment in different ways. Some have directly criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger online, while others have started a petition asking the studio to reconsider the project, originally known as Hunt for Ben Solo.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been following the online reaction to the scrapped Ben Solo film, and it’s been intense! A petition on Change.org is gaining serious traction – it’s already over 1,300 signatures strong, spreading like wildfire through all the major fan groups. People are really upset about the cancellation, calling it a big error in judgment. They feel the affection for Ben Solo, and Adam Driver’s portrayal of him, just keeps getting stronger, and this movie would have been amazing.

I was really surprised to hear recently that a Star Wars movie called ‘The Hunt For Ben Solo’ was actually planned at one point! Apparently, Adam Driver himself came up with the initial idea, and he worked on the outline with Steven Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt. They even got a script written by Scott Z. Burns with Lucasfilm’s backing. It’s a shame Disney ultimately decided to cancel it, though – it would have been fascinating to see where they’d take Kylo Ren’s story.

We feel this was a significant error and needs to be fixed quickly. Fans have consistently shown their strong love and appreciation for Ben Solo, and that passion continues to grow. For many of us, the biggest letdown was simply that his story ended in The Rise of Skywalker. While we don’t know the details of the planned film, it would have at least delved deeper into the character’s clear potential.

The petitioner is still requesting that Walt Disney Studios approve and begin production on the feature film, calling the current situation a mistake that needs to be fixed.

You know, it’s become pretty clear Adam Driver really wanted to keep playing Kylo Ren. And honestly, after seeing what he brought to the role in the sequels, it feels like a huge missed opportunity not to let such a talented actor continue with Star Wars. He was amazing as Ben Solo, and I’d love to see more of that!

The fans want it. Lucasfilm wants it. Adam Driver wants it. So what are you waiting for, Disney?

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Walt Disney Studios approve and begin production on the feature film “Star Wars: The Hunt For Ben Solo.”

Various signers have vocally shared their support in the quest to ‘uncancel’ the Star Wars film.

One person signing the petition wrote that Disney needs to understand that listening to what fans want is key to their success. Another shared a personal connection, saying Kylo Ren’s story helped them move past their own history, and pleaded for justice and recognition for the character Ben Solo.

Social media channels for Star Wars and several Disney executives are seeing a lot of comments about the canceled movie. This could be the start of a larger fan campaign asking Disney to revive the project.

Will The Hunt for Ben Solo Actually Happen?

While it currently seems very improbable, a The Hunt for Ben Solo movie isn’t completely out of the question.

It’s unlikely Disney will revisit the movie idea, mainly because a lot of time has passed since the initial pitch, which reportedly happened around 2021.

It’s been almost five years since Bob Iger and Disney decided against the idea. The Star Wars franchise has evolved and is now preparing to launch a new series of theatrical films, starting with The Mandalorian & Grogu (you can find more details about the upcoming Star Wars movies here).

Even if the studio reconsidered the title, the project’s success really depends on the combination of Ryan Driver, Steven Soderbergh, and Aaron Burns – each one is essential to the excitement surrounding it.

After so much time has passed, it’s doubtful these three major stars would even think about working on the project again. However, it’s not impossible.

If fans keep expressing strong dissatisfaction with the movie, Disney might at least explore reaching out to the people involved to gauge their continued interest. However, this would only happen with a very large and sustained outcry from the fanbase.

If Star Wars fans start a large campaign to bring the movie back, similar to the movement to release Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, then Disney CEO Bob Iger would likely have to consider it.
