Krysten Ritter has hinted she might reprise her role as Lady Vengeance if there’s a second season of Dexter: Resurrection. Showtime has confirmed the show will return after unexpectedly cancelling the prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin. The announcement came over a month after the first season ended, which proved to be very popular, breaking viewership records for Showtime.
I was really impressed with Yvonne Ritter’s first major role – she played Lady Vengeance (also known as Mia La Pierre) in the first season of Dexter: Resurrection. She was instantly captivating; she brought this really charming but creepy energy to the show that just worked. Sadly, her character didn’t last. She was killed in prison, but it wasn’t a straightforward death. It was made to look like suicide, all orchestrated by a guard who was paid off. The whole thing was a cover-up – Leon Prater (played by Peter Dinklage) didn’t want her revealing his secret society of serial killers.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, actress Ritter shared her enthusiasm about the possibility of reprising her role in the popular Showtime series. She spoke fondly of her connection to the character and the show’s creative team, specifically thanking Scott Reynolds, a frequent collaborator from Jessica Jones, for the opportunity to be a part of the Dexter world. You can find her exact words below.
Absolutely, I’d jump at the chance to revisit that role! I really connected with the character, and honestly, the whole experience on the show was fantastic. I’m a huge fan of Michael and Scott Reynolds – he was an EP on Jessica Jones and also works on Dexter – and he’s actually how I landed the part. He specifically wrote the character with me in mind, which means a lot. Plus, a lot of the crew from Jessica Jones were working on it too, especially in the group department, so it felt like a really comfortable fit. And the cast? Just brilliant. But that character… it’s one of those rare roles you don’t come across very often, and I really cherished playing them.
Her excitement matches the way Dexter often surprises viewers by bringing back old characters. Throughout the show’s run, characters who seemed gone have frequently reappeared – sometimes in flashbacks, as hallucinations, or simply as references to past events. So, the return of Lady Vengeance, whether she actually comes back or is just remembered, would feel natural and consistent with the series.
Krysten Ritter is a well-known actress, comfortable in both popular and critically acclaimed shows, and she’s particularly skilled at portraying characters with complicated feelings, especially in serious roles. She first gained attention for her work on Breaking Bad and received an Emmy nomination for playing Jessica Jones, proving she can convincingly play flawed characters. These comments were made after the show’s second season was announced. The new season promises to build on the world of Dexter, exploring the gray areas of its characters and linking the current storyline, Resurrection, to previous seasons like New Blood and Original Sin.
I was a huge fan of the original Dexter – it really put Showtime on the map and ran for so long, getting a lot of recognition along the way. Then, Dexter: New Blood came out and everyone started talking about him again. It gave us a final ending for his story, though it definitely sparked a lot of debate!
Following the success of previous seasons, Dexter: Resurrection introduced fresh characters and storylines, like Ritter’s Lady Vengeance. Then, Original Sin delved deeper into Dexter’s past, showing his life in 1991 Miami as he became a vigilante killer, learning from his father, Harry Morgan.
These projects clearly show that Showtime remains committed to one of television’s most popular and long-running crime series.
