The animated film KPop Demon Hunters received an impressive 10 nominations for the 53rd Annie Awards, making it one of the leading contenders this year. It shares the top spot with Pixar’s Elio, which also earned 10 nominations.

The Annie Awards, given out each year by ASIFA-Hollywood, celebrate outstanding artistry and technical skill in animation for movies, TV shows, and more. The 2026 ceremony will be held on February 21st at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles.
Award Nominations
KPop Demon Hunters has been recognized with several nominations in major animated film awards. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature, Best Direction, and Best Music, and also received nominations for technical and artistic achievements.
The movie is up for Best Animated Feature alongside other strong contenders like Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, The Bad Guys 2, and Zootopia 2.
Beyond being recognized as a major film, KPop Demon Hunters earned nominations across a range of creative and technical fields. These included nominations for outstanding Character Animation, Character Design, Editing, and Production Design – all specifically for a feature film.
A nomination for Best Direction highlights the film’s directing team, while a nomination for Best Voice Acting recognizes the quality of the voice performances.
As a huge animation fan, I always look forward to the Annie Award nominations. This year’s list is really interesting because it shows a great balance between big studio films like KPop Demon Hunters and Elio, and some fantastic independent projects. It’s not just about the feature films though – the TV shows and shorts are getting a lot of love too! Win or Lose, for example, is up for six awards in the TV/Media categories, which is awesome to see.
The Annie Awards cover 37 different contests, recognizing excellence in animated feature films, independent films, shorts, special projects, and individual artistry. Beyond these competitive awards, the Annies also present special honors for lifetime achievements and other important contributions to the world of animation.
Other Nominations
The nominations follow the success KPop Demon Hunters has already seen this awards season. Earlier in January 2026, the film took home awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Golden”) at the 31st Critics Choice Awards, which were held in Santa Monica, California.
The film has also received Grammy nominations for its music, including a nomination for “Golden” as Song of the Year, and recognition for its songwriting.
The Annie Awards nominations show appreciation for outstanding work in animation, as judged by fellow animators and industry experts. ASIFA-Hollywood members and other professionals vote for the winners, who will be revealed at a live event in February.
