Keke Palmer has been part of the entertainment world for more than twenty years, and her top movies demonstrate why she continues to thrive in her career. Given her status as a dynamic child star who’s continued acting, it comes as no surprise that she’s crossed paths with numerous famous stars and influential Hollywood families throughout her journey. An especially memorable experience for the performer during her formative years was running into Eddie Murphy before their collaboration on the Prime Video series The Pickup. She shared an amusing story about this meeting, which contrasted with the idea that celebrities are just like regular people.
Palmer discussed with People about how her upcoming streaming action-comedy has made it onto the 2025 movie schedule. She will be acting alongside Pete Davidson and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Murphy, and she mentioned that she had met the legendary actor about 15 years before working with him on the Tim Story project, without initially realizing she was inside Eddie Murphy’s house at the time. This unexpected encounter came about thanks to an invitation from her long-time friends – his daughters. She elaborated on this experience:
I had never met their father before, so they casually invited me over for dinner at his place. It took me a moment to realize who their dad was – Eddie Murphy! I was astonished! He was descending the stairs in his pajamas, strumming a guitar, which was incredibly cool. At that moment, I thought to myself, ‘Wow, he truly lives the high life.’
Experiencing such an exhilarating moment for a budding adult actress like Palmer, who had already encountered many stars in her child acting days, was undoubtedly special, especially given that Murphy embodies the epitome of Hollywood’s elite. As per the article, she managed to maintain her composure during the event, but it’s heartwarming to know that their initial encounter resembled a casual dad-daughter interaction. And when they crossed paths again on the set of the current Amazon streaming movie, it appears their relationship remained unchanged.
Unfortunately, upon its premiere in August, the movie “The Pickup” has received mediocre reviews from critics. However, people seemed to appreciate the eclectic red carpet styles of the cast, particularly Pete Davidson. Moreover, both “The Pickup” and other projects of theirs had some notable highlights this year. For instance, the former SNL cast member was a part of the historic 50th anniversary special of late-night shows. Similarly, the joint film by KP and SZA, titled “One of Them Days,” garnered significant attention on Netflix streaming charts after its success at the box office.

In addition to their ups and downs this year, Murphy and Palmer have several major projects lined up for the 2026 movie schedule and beyond. The 64-year-old will be reprising his role in Shrek 5, which has been moved to 2027. On the other hand, the 32-year-old has an impressive 11 upcoming projects including Sister Act 3 and Spaceballs 2. It’s safe to say there are many significant events coming up, but working with a personal hero of hers seems particularly monumental for her.
I’m delighted to hear about Palmer’s initial encounter with Murphy. It leaves me curious about his own memories! Was it perhaps one of his kid’s friends who joined them for an ordinary dinner? And does he share the same level of entertaining anecdotes as the star of Nope? There’s no doubt about this: I sure hope they get to meet again on-screen!
