Ke Huy Quan Is Playing A Snake In Zootopia 2, And I Had To Ask Him About The Funny Irony In The Indiana Jones Connection

Ke Huy Quan is experiencing a fantastic career resurgence. After winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, he’s landed some exciting roles, including a significant part in the second season of the popular Marvel series Loki and a voice acting role in the upcoming Disney animated movie Zootopia 2. It’s a remarkable comeback for the actor, who first became known as a child star, and it’s interesting to note a bit of a pattern in the types of projects he’s choosing.

Ke Huy Quan first became known for playing Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Interestingly, his recent roles seem to playfully nod to Indiana Jones’ biggest fear – snakes. He played Ouroboros, a character named after a serpent image, in Loki, and voices a pit viper named Gary Da’Snake in Zootopia 2. I pointed out this amusing connection to Quan and his Zootopia 2 co-star Ginnifer Goodwin during a recent interview, and he admitted he’d noticed it himself, laughing about the coincidence. The actor then said,

I’m jokingly saying I’m the scariest creature in the Indiana Jones movies! (Laughs) Actually, it didn’t occur to me until recently how significant this role was. It just hit me a little while ago.

Okay, so everyone always points to Raiders of the Lost Ark as the movie where Indy’s snake phobia really comes out, and that’s fair. But honestly, it’s still a little amusing to see it pop up elsewhere, you know?

You know, it’s funny how things click. Quan figured out the puzzle, but honestly, it completely flew over Goodwin’s head – and mine too, initially. I had to point it out to her before she understood what was going on.

I’m actually just realizing this now – it hadn’t occurred to me before. It’s funny, because we were just making jokes about snakes and Indiana Jones a little while ago.

Plus, Quan pointed out another interesting detail about this project. Overall, it’s been a fantastic year for the Oscar-winning actor. Not only did Zootopia 2 come out in theaters, but he also starred in his first leading role in February with the action-romance Love Hurts. And he also shared what the year 2025 will be in the Chinese zodiac.

You’re right to mention the snakes in Indiana Jones and the Ouroboros symbol. With 2025 being the Year of the Snake, it feels like everything is happening for a reason.

I’m so excited for Zootopia 2! It looks like the movie really dives into a big mystery – why aren’t there any snakes (or other reptiles!) living in Zootopia? It picks up right after the first movie, and Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are investigating a conspiracy that goes all the way back to how the city was built. Plus, the voice cast is amazing – Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman are back, and they’ve added Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, Fortune Feimster, and even Idris Elba! It’s hitting theaters tomorrow, November 26th, and I can’t wait to see it!
