Kate Winslet Teases Season 2 of HBO’s 95% RT-Score Crime Series

Okay, so I was reading an interview with Kate Winslet, and she finally gave us some hope about Mare of Easttown Season 2! She seems pretty confident they’ll do it, which is huge because she hadn’t really committed to it before. She’s a fantastic actress, obviously, and has done some great TV like The Regime and Mildred Pierce, but she admitted that playing Mare Sheehan was something special – honestly, she thinks it’s one of her best roles ever. She actually said, ‘I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that,’ so fingers crossed, but don’t expect it anytime soon – she’s busy with films, and it sounds like it’ll be a while before we see Mare back in Easttown.

Kate Winslet previously stated that after finishing the 2021 series, she considered the project completely finished. However, she left the door open to returning as the character, explaining that the story was so strong it was hard to say no, especially considering how demanding filming had been for everyone involved, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She added that both she and Brad would only consider continuing if the storyline was truly captivating.

Kate Winslet, known for her role in Titanic, recently told Deadline she’s cautiously hopeful about a second season of her detective series. She says this is the first time she’s genuinely felt a new season is possible, with real discussions happening about when it could be filmed. However, she also indicated that a return to the show isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

I don’t think filming will happen this year; it’s more likely to be in 2027. We’ll probably start shooting around 2027.

When it first came out, Mare of Easttown received widespread praise, earning a 95% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The HBO series also won many awards, recognizing the performances of Kate Winslet, Julianne Nicholson, and Evan Peters, among others.

Ian Ingelsby has also written for films like Out of the Furnace, The Way Back, and Echo Valley – compelling stories focused on characters that didn’t always get the attention they deserved. But some consider his best work, besides Mare of Easttown, to be the 2025 crime series Task. The series, starring Tom Pelphrey and Mark Ruffalo, featured incredible performances and was widely praised as one of the year’s best TV shows.

Though fans are still hoping for more from Mare of Easttown, those who enjoy Kate Winslet’s previous work should definitely watch this compelling story about two men with serious flaws who find themselves on opposite sides of the law. It’s been highly praised by critics, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mark Ruffalo hinted that the shows Task and his other projects might eventually share the same universe, potentially leading to crossovers. He clarified that these plans aren’t confirmed, but are being considered. Task, a seven-episode series, is currently available on HBO Max and has been renewed for a second season, which is now in the works.
